Hi. Am researching private wings/wards in London and SE for my third c-section in March. Getting confused!! Any top tips on which unit to choose.... just want a competent, clean, restful and safe experience this time. Lindo seems to be doing well as far as info goes..... can anyone vouch for any specifically.... or other options have not considered? Thanks in advance!

"I don't get why people chuck themselves on the NHS just so they can have one extra holiday "

I was going to ignore this thread as being totally irrelevant to my life until I read this.

Truly, you cannot be serious....

Yep... totally serious.

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 21:30

Agree with Twinkie...

Health of my baby and myself was paramount.

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 21:33

Sorry that should be twinkle

tissy · 12/08/2008 21:34

well, if your average holiday costs 12 grand, then you don't need to consider the NHS do you?

I could pay for more than 12 family holidays with that money.

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 21:40

Health of all babies are paramount to their mothers - even those of us who use NHS hospitals and rate them, and the staff who do fantastic work, very highly.

Oh - and twinkie - you could give your baby the best start in life simply by breastfeeding. If you really wanted to put your health and that of your baby's first.

A wee word of advice - making sweeping generalisations like 'chucking yourself on the NHS for one extra holiday' is really rather offensive - although I'm sure you didn't mean to be. Might be better to recognise that your income allows you the choice of private care, and be slightly more gracious.

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 21:48

Oh, whatever... This thread was about private care.

I chose private care and posted about my experience.

I could equally write that anyone who slags off the NHS (and many people do) should be equally gracious about having a bloody NHS service in the first place. Actually I just did write that, didn't I!

I decided not to abuse the NHS service and went private. Paolosgirl - please read my other threads before you decide whether I'm gracious enough. I think you will find that I am overjoyed at being a mother and, if anything, am a PFB

The OP asked for opinions on private care. That is what Twinkle and I provided.

tissy · 12/08/2008 21:53

I agree the op asked for opinions about certain private units in London, and as this thread was about private care, I didn't comment until the totally irrelevant, and uncalled for suggestions that (a) the cost of private care equated to one holiday and (b) the great unwashed throw themselves on the NHS rather than spend the cost of a holiday on providing their children with the best start in life.

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 21:56

I did read your other posts, and stand by everything I said in terms of your lack of graciousness at the fact that you are in the fortunate position of being able to choose.

Presumably you'll choose not to 'abuse' the NHS if you need an A and E? Or do you choose when to abuse the NHS?

poppy34 · 12/08/2008 21:57

Lansdell absolultey fantastic..didnt have a c section but cannot fault the flawless care i received

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 21:59

Your words, Tissy, not mine.

I never mentioned anything about washing whatsoever.... that was your call... Oh, I did, I mentioned Hygiene, didn't I????

And, IMHO, for my family to go on holiday for a fortnight (2 adults, 2 teenagers and 1 baby) that's the sort of money we're looking at.

Sorry if that's offensive to you, but it happens to be true.....

These are your issues, Tissy, not mine.

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 22:01

Oh, FFS, I wanted an elective CS.

I Could have blagged one on the NHS or I could stand up, be truthful and go private.

Are you really trying to say that means I shouldn't consider myself worthy of A&E???

Did someone die and make you god while I wasn't looking?

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 22:04

No-one has 'issues' YCBS - what on earth are you talking about?

Delighted that you can afford holidays of that ilk. You must have worked very hard in your career to earn that sort of money.

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 22:05

Make me God? Err...no, don't think so

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 22:06

Obedie - Sorry this has gotten off track.

Sorry!

tissy · 12/08/2008 22:13

by twinkle 3869, "Mine was about 12k from start to finish. Nromal mld with a 2 night stay was £7k when i was there"

by youcannotbeserious, "Yes, it's not a small amount of money, but it's not life changing either. I don't get why people chuck themselves on the NHS just so they can have one extra holiday "

No, you didn't mention the "great unwashed" If I have time, I'll look up the quote, I believe it refers to commoners.
I am not claiming the NHS is perfect, I work for it, but the implication that most ordinary people would rather sacrifice the wellbeing of their babies to save money that they would happily squander on holidays is offensive.

Most ordinary families don't spend 12K on a holiday. Nowhere near.

tissy · 12/08/2008 22:15

The great unwashed

Meaning

The common, lower classes; the hoi-polloi.

Origin

This rather disparaging term was coined by the Victorian novelist and playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton. He used it in his 1830 novel Paul Clifford:

"He is certainly a man who bathes and ?lives cleanly?, (two especial charges preferred against him by Messrs. the Great Unwashed)."

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 22:17

Ah, but happily Tissy, she will deign the NHS with her presence if she really, truly needs it following an accident. Happily then, all the NHS 'failings' will be ignored

I haven't slagged off private care. YCBS has slagged off the NHS.

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 22:24

Not slagging off private hospitals at all, love. Use them myself in fact, love. Delighted that your little man got over his infection, love. NHS perfectly capable diagnosing Strep though, love. Might be better off slating the "I don't get why people chuck themselves on the NHS just so they can have one extra holiday " comment, love, rather than trying to pretend this is the evil anti-private brigade giving us all a hard time. Love.

youcannotbeserious · 12/08/2008 22:25

It always happens.

Come here for any sort of advice and the great unwashed (Your words, not mine... Tissy) are out like vultures...

Sad but true

I just want to apologise to Odedie again, because this was a thread posted in good faith and didn't deserve to be shot down just because a few people think they have the right to tell the rest of the population how to live and what is and isn't acceptable to spend on a holiday.
