Hello, I think they say every 5 minutes is a good time to 'check in' but not desperate till 3 minutes.

Are you having some?

DonnyLass · 08/08/2008 06:07

how are you doing babieseverywhere?

I checked with midwife at about every 2 minutes from start of one to start of next

and when length of actual contraction was about a minute itself

have you got someone around to help you count?

BabiesEverywhere · 08/08/2008 06:08

Over a minute long every 5 minutes, hopefully having a home birth.

Ooh! A live labour thread!!

Well done, sorry I wasn't here earlier!

Have you been coping Ok with the pain?

DonnyLass · 08/08/2008 06:10

if it makes you feel better let the midwife know

5 mins apart is still reasonably long ... dont think midwife will come round till they're 2/3 mins apart

here you go ... go do what you gotta do ... you'll be great!

(have some food tho' woman, it's a long haul flight and you'll need your energy)

Flightputsonahat · 08/08/2008 06:14

I suppose it depends, mine were 5 mins apart pretty much from the start and he was born within 3 1/2 hours, but there was still time to get midwife there...however she took about an hour? to arrive so maybe ring them now so they are on stand by as it were.

Good luck!!! xx

DonnyLass · 08/08/2008 06:15

get DH to write it down ... it helps you and him to focus

also I discovered our chart a year or so after DD was born and it made me chuckle seeing all the little timings ... 05.43:20--0.54.30 etc .....

I started contractions like you at about 4am, they were 2 mins apart by 7am, went to hospital at 8am ('only 3cm dilated') and dd born at 10.43 am!

So you never know ... just go with each contraction and stay motivated ... your body is doing exactly what its meant to do.

You're gonna be great. We're all rooting for you.

BabiesEverywhere · 08/08/2008 06:16

Had some toast earlier and I am drinking a lovely cup of tea.

DH has set up and filled birth pool, but I daren't get in and potentially slow things down so for the time being I am using a TENS and thinking hard about meeting my new baby and how every contraction is one less to go (neither is particularly getting rid of the pain but hey ho, worth a try )

SO far pain is bearable but compared to my last labour, induced back to back baby tied on my back to a hospital bed with monitoring stuff and a drip when I thought I was going to die, I am really hopeing I cope better this time OR the pain will be lower this time as I am moving around etc.

have a bacon butty while you've time inbetween contractions ... trust me you'll need the energy (and it gives DH something useful to do)!

DearHusband · 08/08/2008 06:19

Between every contraction?

I'd better go get some more bread.

And bacon.

EffiePerine · 08/08/2008 06:30

I'd ring the mw at 5 mins.

Flightputsonahat · 08/08/2008 06:34

LOLOL!! DH I think you can afford not to take that literally

Yes I am sure it will be better this time. My first was hospital too, home birth was a revelation - have some G&A if you fancy it though, I think I should have

BabiesEverywhere · 08/08/2008 06:56

Still at 5 minutes.

EffiePerine · 08/08/2008 07:01

Have you called yet? She can always tell you to ring later, but it may take her a while to arrive. I was told to go in to the hosp at 5 mins and was 5 cm dilated by then

BabiesEverywhere · 08/08/2008 07:08

Not Yet

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 07:27

keeping my fingers crossed for you

TigerFeet · 08/08/2008 08:19

OMG!!

You still there??

Good luck!

love you all xxxxx

cheerfulvicky · 08/08/2008 08:20

Ohh, good luck BabiesEverywhere, I hope things are happening for you! Today would be a lovely birthdate to have, I agree. Sounds like you are coping well but don't be afraid to give the midwives a ring just to update them on where you're at.
...sends positive labour vibes...

FrannyandZooey · 08/08/2008 08:28

oh fab
sending love and happiness your way
looking forward to reading about it

FWIW my contractions started at 5 mins apart and ds was born 6 hours later
I phoned the midwife after an hour - she had said just ring when I wanted some help - and it was painful enough then to want her there

pooka · 08/08/2008 08:33

I would ring now so that she can organise her morning accordingly.
I left it a little late with ds (hindsight a wonderful thing) and by the time I'd rung, no midwives available..... and grrr.

EffiePerine · 08/08/2008 08:43

Hoe are things going? Hope you're progressing enough to not want to type

8/8/08 a very cool birthday to have

QueenyEisGotTheBall · 08/08/2008 08:49

oooh i LOVE a good live labour thread
good luck babieseverywhere any sign of baby yet? with the radio silence it looks like you are progressing enough to be unable to MN
xx ei xx

TigerFeet · 08/08/2008 08:50

A very lucky day, especially if you're Chinese (which BE and her DH aren't but we won't split hairs)

Which is why the Beijing Olympics starts today.
