Questions about 'Show'

I never had a show with my first, so bear with me.

I am 39 weeks and 6 days today and had a large piece of clear stretchy jelly stuff fall out of me, after being on the toilet...could this be a show or a part of it ?

If it is, does it mean anything about impending labour (still need to sort stuff out for this, like a labour bag etc...I am far to disorganised this time around) ?

I have loads of BH sometimes for hours which simply tail off to nothing, this morning I just have the odd BH but nothing to write home about.

Or am I likely to be moaning about pregnancy two weeks from now ?

Hi Babieseverywhere, for me I had my show (which it sounds like you've had) and like two minutes later my waters broke and about five hours later DS was born. But everybody's different. If you are unsure, give your midwife a call. Fingers crossed that your DC is on their way

i haven;t had a showmyself but this does sound like what i would think a show would be

you should prob contact your midwife i think that it says to do so if you have had pr think you have had a show

it could be a sign of impending labour but then i think i have read somewhere that that doesn't always follow

Sounds like it could be a show but it doesn't necessarily mean labour is about to begin, just that your body is getting ready.. I had a bloody show with my first pregnancy and still had to be induced.

This time round I had a bloody show and contractions at 28 weeks and baby has stayed put (thank god!)

If I was you, I'd get the hospital bag ready, you're going to need it in the next 2 weeks anyway. If you want to encourage baby to get moving you could always try a nice massage with clary sage and lavender oils.

I'm not really assigned to a community midwife (long story), so noone to ring.

Hopefully having a home birth, so I just need my stuff in one pile rather than the 6/7 piles around the house, like they are at the moment.

Don't feel like anything will happen soon, so back to the washing/mumsnetting/cuddling my DD.

I had a show similar to this about two weeks before giving birth, it doesn't necessarily mean things will happen soon. Hopefully it's not so long for you though BE! Are you still set for a homebirth?

Yes, despite having a letter from the local hospital saying that a consultant and the consultant midwife (who is meant to be supporting me) still disapprove of my decision to have a homebirth and that I should be in hospital.

Stupid, as I am having a low risk pregnancy with no medical reason (so far and fingers crossed) to be in hospital.

But they keep harping on about my last birth, which was bad because they kept pushing interventions onto me and surprise, I ended up with a nightmare instrumental birth. This hospital fancy repeating the sodding experiment to see if they repeat the terrible hospital invention filled labour, to see if I end up in the same state.

I don't, so I am staying home as long as possible. Hopefully until the baby arrives, assuming labour goes well.

Babies - I had something that sounded similar with DS 1, at about 2am. I didn't tell anyone at the time, as I had also heard it just meant labour could happen in the next couple of weeks and I didn't want people fiddling with me/hoiking me into hospital. Waters went a bit at 4am, called the midwife at 6am. She still thought I'd be ages.

Rest of waters went at 9am, baby born in my bed by 1pm. Wish I'd mentioned it sooner as was planning a home water birth and there wasn't time to fill the pool!

I had contractions for about 8 hours prior to my show - I wasn't actually sure they were contractions until I had the show!

It was not clear though, it was quite red and dd was born 7 hours later...

although at about 34 weeks I was having a shower and looked down to see what I thought was the show (I was suffering with horrendous braxton hicks which clouded my judgement) and almost ran screaming from the bathroom until I realised that actually it was a blob of pink shampoo which I had just dropped...

ROFL poor!

Yeah, my show wasn't just clear either...

Hi BabiesEverywhere, am 39+ 6 also today - I had the same yesterday but nothing more since. Last time I didn't have a show until I was well into labour. Wonder who will pop first?

I had a bit more pink jelly and just a normal amount of painfull BH. So I don't think I am ready yet.

Though DH is using this as an excuse to have curry for tea Any excuse to get curry, is a good one

Mine isn't pink . DH works nights so has dinner at 4ish, waaaay too early for a curry! Time for the raspberry leaf tea...

I hate raspberry tea and I have had 3 cups of it today.
