St George's vs St Thomas' (London) - which hospital to choose?

St George's is closer to me but I've had poor treatment there before

I know G's has a new MLU unit, has anyone used it?
Have they improved the rest of the place?
I recall PN wards being grim with a loo miles down the corridor

All input welcome

Hi Notcitrus - not sure whether you're still reading these posts (sure you've got your hands full with the arrival of your little one!) but I could really do with finding out how you managed a HB under the Ivory team? I have asked my hospital MW's and been told that I have to transfer to Tommies, then today rang to query again (having re-read your posts) and am being told that there is just no way for me to do this without transferring... are you in Lambeth and how, if so, did you persuade them?! I'm reluctant to transfer just because my consultant is so good - and he saw me all the way through the birth of my first - also the fact that geting to Tommies just for appointments (let alone for the birth itself) is such a hassle with a little one to drag along... public transport is not made for pregnant women and hefty toddler/ pushchair combo! If you can give me any pointers at all, I'd be massively grateful!

Had my first at St George's and my advice is check your postcode if you're in Streatham. I had antenatal care there no problem but the day I was discharged they told me I would have to arrange my own postnatal care as I was out of the catchment area .

Also the postnatal ward I was on was terrible - apart from one midwife who was amazing the rest were uncommunicative, brusque and in once case actually unpleasant: I had pulled the red cord in the shower as I couldn't bend down to clean the blood and clots off the floor (because of my stitches) and really didn't want to leave it like that for the next person. I was really upset and crying (it turned out I'd had a postpartum haemorrhage which they hadn't told me about so was very anaemic and shaky at this point) and she shouted at me and said, "what are you crying for? You've only had a baby".

elmer - notcitrus had adam at St G's in the end, not a HB. If you live in Lambeth (from what I've heard) you have to go to Kings or Tommies to have your homebirth - St G's don't offer it for those of us in SW16. Boobz knows more about this as she transferred from St G's after being told she couldn't homebirth unless she was with Tommies
