Lochia - How long after the birth should it be going on for?

I had DS 6 weeks ago and was expecting to be bleeding for at least this time afterwards. However, about 3 weeks ago, the bleeding had slowed right down and continued to do so, right up until last weekend when it gave way to some discharge which resembled a show. This then slowed down over a couple of days until yesterday when I noticed that I had started to bleed again. Is this normal? Should I go and get it checked out? It's not bleeding like a period, more like a browny, old blood kind of colour. There isn't much of it, but it is enough to warrant sanitary pads again.

Could it be linked to being more active? Had you been for a long walk, or carried some heavy shopping home? I bled for around 8 weeks both times, and it got heavier when I did more, and lighter if I was just sitting around (chance would be a fine thing, eh?).

i don't think its anything to worry about unless you have clots or its smelly.

It could be. I have been more active since having DS than I ever was before, but haven't really overdone it anymore than that in the last week or so.

mine carried on for 10 (yes, 10) weeks, and although it trailed off in the last few weeks, it did vary in colour and intensity at times - although i can't remember if it was related to activity

yes, i remember being told by the midwife, if its REALLY heave then get it checked - and about it smelling or clots.

I got admitted over night a few weeks after birth because mine restarted, my own fault for overdoing things after a section but after coming home I realised that it was quite common. If you're worried though talk to a midwife or a GP x

My bleeding went on for just over six weeks and in retrospect it was because I did far too much. I would highly recommend that you slow down and rest (not easy I know!), and if you get any kind of strange smell or clots then you get it checked out.

Mine went on and off again for around 2-3 months. Spent a bloody fortune on pads!

Lou - mine stopped for a bit and then restarted when I over did it a bit. I did totally stop after about 6 weeks though. There was hardly anything towards the end and I used liners for a few days.

When it restarted I was doing a little more... walking up and down the stairs because I kept forgetting stuff.

If it doesn't smell right (ok, not that it smells right anyway!), go and get it checked out.

if the smell/volume/amount of pads used changes see your gp. i bled for @7wk

I was gonna say it smells a bit icky anyway Mine lasted about 7 weeks both times, and I also had the wierdness of a random dried clot coming away about 2 weeks after the end of bleeding with dd. Had the stopping for a couple of days then starting again too.
