Anyone had an elective c-section by Mr Impey in Oxford?

Feeling so relieved right now - v early in my 1st pregnancy but have been bricking it thinking of vaginal delivery and so has DH it turns out.

It's not the pain though, or fear of tearing or anything like that. To cut a long story short we know there are no guarantees in life, disability can strike anyone at any time.

But we both grew up with younger relatives severely disabled by vaginal births gone wrong and it was no picnic for the families. We've done our homework and know a lot about the risks involved in CS but have decided it's the only way for us.

Trying to convince the NHS will be a different story. I imagine hugely stressful too. So we've now agreed if all else fails we'll pull our savings together and go private and not give a damn what people say. I'd love to hear from you if you've been through this, thanks.

I think people are very quick to tell you the risks involved in a section but are happy to let people find out the risks of a vaginal delivery by themselves!

I had a section, it was a wonderful calm experience and I was up and about before a friend who delivered vaginally the day before me - she was unable to get out of bed.

I have other friends who experienced 4th degree tears and one who broke her pubic bone when the baby got stuck. She was walking with a zimmer frame - so much for vaginal births having a shorter recovery time!

As you say, sections also greatly reduce the chances of the baby being oxygen deprived at birth as well as incurring other injuriessuch as a fractured skull through a forcep delivery.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and support on this topic - it really means a lot to me.

Have just been to see the midwife for the booking appt; a real home birth/all-things-'natural'-is best-lady, and she really surprised me by listening carefully to DH's and my shared family history on traumatic VBs and being deeply sympathetic to my thoughts & wishes. She is writing a letter referring me for consultant led care & elective CS with Mr Impey.
She also echoed what someone here said, that with worries like mine I would probably not have an effective labour anyway.

It's like a huge weight coming off and we're now really looking forward to becoming parents. My warmest thanks again to everyone who took the time to read and write here. x
