Going for VBAC - but overdue - should I go for induction?

Pregnancy #1 (3 years ago) ended in emergency c-section due to undiagnosed breech - I laboured until about 7cm before the section. This time (#2) I've gone for VBAC but I'm now 3 days overdue and have an appointment with the consultant tomorrow to discuss whether I'm willing to be induced (presumably sometime next week?) or whether I should be booked for a planned section if I don't deliver in the next while.
Last time I spoke to the consultant, she said that they would be willing to induce me (not all consultants in our hospital will) but I should understand the the chance of succeeding with a VBAC is significantly reduced and obviously the chance of the rupture increases.
My section last time was fairly straight forward and I had no difficulties afterwards.
Does anyone have any advice on whether it's worth trying the induction? Does it limit my pain relief options ie no epidural?
My midwife is definitely pro-VBAC but said actually most of her women have done an elective c-section before this stage anyway so couldn't give much evidence of success with induction!
Any thoughts or experiences would be helpful thanks.

I had an induced VBAC with DS2 (2 days before due date but waters had gone 72hrs previously), was given all the pain relief going (pethidine, epidural, etc).

I didn't end up with another CS, but I can't lie, it wasn't pleasant (though that was probably down to the fact that for some bizarre reason NONE of the pain relief worked at all).
