Help with contractions

I am having contractions approximately every 13-15 minutes. One will be excrutiating (sp) with the following one being milder, more like a bad period pain. Next one bad again. The baddies last about 1 minute 15 seconds or so. The milders ones probably about the same but livable.

I telephoned the hospital because the bad ones are so bad, I don't know if I will cope getting to down to every 5 minutes before going in.

Hospital said these are not contractions but practice ones because when I sweep was attempted on Tuesday I was unfavourable with my score being zero.

This has been going on since about 10.30 last night.

Any suggestions? Should I telephone them back and tell them I am coming in?

have a bath and take some paracetomal.

a lot can change with your cervix in a couple of days so it is silly to say that you could not be having real ctx

if it is not labour though a bath will stop or slow things so you can rest up

what are you doing to cope with the big pains>

BTW, not a lot of point going in right now, as if you are in latent labour, and if you can post on MN, you probably are ! and if so, and you are not 3 cm dilated with regular pains, then the most that will probably happen is ante natal ward, with some cocodomal.

you will not be admitted to labour ward until 3 - 4cm dilation with regular ctx

being at home, pottering round, taking a bath, eat and drinking, weeing and pooing as you need to is probably far preferable for you right now

do you ahve a tens machine?>

Have you tried soaking in the bath? Sometimes relaxing can sort them out.

It sounds like you are getting tired though. I would phone them up and tell them what's going on and how long.

Poor you. It'll be OK. Good luck.

Go in when you think you need to. With ds last month my contractions were immediately very close together and the community midwife came to see me and told me to stay at home as long as I could. I can see the logic behind it, but half an hour after she left we were in a dash to the hospital. I am glad I went when I did as ds was born less than 2 hours after getting there and after some pretty spectacular contracions in the car park, corridor, you name it Sweeps meen nothing and things can change very quickly. Good luck!
