does anyone know how soon they will let you have an induction if you go overdue?

i am a week over by my dates, but only a day over by the hospital dates. I will be seeing the midwife this afternoon anyway, but wondered how soon they might induce me. Do they make you wait a certain amount of time before inducing?

I am SO tired of being pregnant, and just want to meet this baby!!!

Yes, you're right. You all are... as usual!
Have decided not to push for an induction, just wait and see what the consultant has to say on Monday (assuming baby hasn't appeared by then).

I think I am just getting far too excited/impatient about the whole thing, and the thought of yet another week passing is just too much!
But as much as I want this baby out RIGHT NOW, I don't really want to have to have an induction, or too much intervention at all if I can help it.

I guess the baby just takes after me. Stubborn... lazy... drama queen! LOL

Oh yeah, and i'm bored of people keep texting me all day to ask if i've had it!!!

I know, starlover, you wish they would stop asking! I ignored all the phones in the end. Best text I had was from a lovely guy I used to work with in Liverpool which said "Just push, love!" It made me laugh so much I thought I'd started labour! Good luck and get the online bath goodies shopping started...

starlover - definately just try and 'chill' durng the time you have left. Once the baby is here you will have very little time for long soaks in the bath, nice meals, phairdo's etc. Try not to exhaust yourself trying to get into labour. Just remember the old adage 'when the apple is ripe, it will drop'.

Totally agree with Mears
I think Starlover you'll be surprised how quickly you'll say "why was I in such a hurry...."..... but there is nothing we can say to prepare you to what's ahead once baby is here.... no more time to yourself

starlover, I know it's interminable, but baby will come! Ds was 12 days over, dd 14 days. I thought I was seriously going to pop. And to make matters worse with dd, she was born August 2003 on the day temperatures hit a new record high. I suffered! Ds was induced at 12 days over, and I really regret not holding out for a more natural start to labour. The birth was fine, but he did have some distress on the way out, and had to have blood samples taken throughout the labour to check his oxygen level, and he had feeding problems after. I have no idea if that was related to being induced, but I feel sure it can't have helped!

Anyway, hope things happen soon. I would recommend sex (not only the contractions of the uterus help, but semen contains prostaglandin, which is the gel they use anyway - top tip, lie with your feet up on a pillow afterwards for half an hour to give it chance to work!), and also lots and lots of walking. Good luck!

Hi starlover, I've just come out of hospital after a 24 hour stay for urine collection. I had protein in my urine, swelling and a constant headache. I'm 37 weeks tomorrow with twins and my consultant considers 'term' for twins as 38 weeks. I was on the antenatal ward and in the bed next to me was a woman 38 weeks with twins who was having gel for induction. I was really hoping that I might be induced as well. The midwife on duty when I was admitted yesterday was of the opinion that I might be seen by the medics and offered induction. The midwife this morning was completely against it. So I spent today filling up my cider flagon of urine, having BP and oedema checked and babies monitored. After talking to the senior reg. this morning, who would have induced if I'd pushed for it ('scuse the pun) I decided against. The most i've got to wait is two weeks and , having listened to 3 women having gel followed by rapid contractions I'm glad I did. I'm not anti-induction, I was induced last time, but spontaneous labour is gentler at the outset.
So, hang in there and as others have said, make the most of the remaining time to yourself. Hoping to meet you on the announcements board soon
