Is it too late to change my mind/or safe to change my mind?

My first birth was an emergency c section due to deflexed op position. My 2nd was a very quick VBAC in hospital.
Im now 37+2 with baby 3 and was planning a homebirth early on in pregnancy, but due to risks of scar rupture etc, i had a change of heart and decided on a hospital birth

Problem is Im now regretting this decision and feel like i want to have the homebirth ive always wanted. Im frightened of the risks etc but dont want to regret not having a homebirth as this will be my last baby.

HELP!!! what should i do? Is it too late to request a homebirth or is it even safe for me to do so?

What does your MW say. If you have had a normal, healthy pregnancy and a natural birth already is it going to be problem?
Also, howuickly could you get to hospital in an emergency?

I havent spoken to midwife, i saw her last week but this feeling only built up over the last few days. I live 10 mins walk from hospital, so v quickly

Can you book for a homebirth and then change your mind if you want to while you're in labor?

mydisguise · 30/06/2008 14:04

do the homebirth!

As far as I'm aware, nothing is set in stone anyway...

Go for it!

ilovemydog · 30/06/2008 14:08

I can't imagine that you wouldn't be able to go to the hospital if it was getting to be too much!

My friend had to go to hospital during a homebirth as DS was slightly stuck and they needed to use foreceps. Same as you - hospital was 10 minutes away. No problem.

If you're not sure give them a call. It can't hurt to ask, and maybe one of the midwives can help you sort out your thoughts a little.

you can boook for homebirth and if you want to transfer in during labour for whatever reason, you can !

sounds like you want to do this and would regret not trying

you know you can give birth vaginally.. so why not go for it!

mears · 30/06/2008 14:11

You would be able to transfer to hospital at any time if you went for homebirth.

The risk of scar rupture in a spontaneous labour is very low. Some would argue you are safer at home as you are less likley to have any interventions in labour.

No reason not to try homebirth IMO.

You can change your mind anytime during labour.

Think they are more likely to listen to you mid-labour if you say you want to go into hosp from home than the other way round!

With DS2 I had a successful homebirth and it was fantastic, plan to have one with this next spog but DS1 labour didn't progress so I went into hospital took 16 mintutes from call for ambulance to getting to the hospital.

I would say best give your MW a call and see what she thinks.

ilovemydog · 30/06/2008 18:32

Oh, forgot to say. My friend who had to go to hospital during a homebirth, later went on to have another very very successful homebirth! (her DS slept through the whole thing and woke up to meet his sister!)

FrannyandZooey · 30/06/2008 18:36

I booked in for a homebirth last week when I was 38 wks pg
my midwife didn't want to do it before then for various reasons (paperwork etc)

you will need to discuss risks with midwife, plus reassure yourself about the possible issues
I suggest www.homebirth.org.uk for a good read
ulitimately you can insist on a homebirth and don't need 'permission' to have one anyway
and yes you can change your mind at any point - I am not sure if I will deliver at home, but I'd like to start labouring at home and thia is the easiest way to go about it IMO

thats a goog point ilovemydog.

Ds1 did that too. the baby is just there so they seem to accept them without question and you don't have to arrange child care etc.
