what happens with a second section?

Right, I had an emergency section last time after a horrific labour that gave me flashbacks for six months and I'm sure interfered with my bonding with the baby. I'm ttc at the moment and I think I'm gonna go for an elective section to avoid the out-of-control horror that was labour. At least with a sectioon they can't doubt you're in labour!

Anyway, my questions are: do they do the cut on the first cut or will I have two scars? and do they book the section for your due date even if your first baby was a month early?

Thanks

With my second they cut my old ugly scar out completely & now I have one very pretty one & no overhang. Probably because they took more time over it (elective vs emergency), it wasn't done in the middle of the night & was done by consultant rather than more junior dr.

My first was born at 36+6 (went into labour at 36+3), the elective with #2 was booked for 38+3 - which is absolutely the earliest they would do it. If I'd gone into labour before then I'd have gone in for a 'non emergency' emergency.

Both mine were emergency c-sections, so not quite the same, but yes they cut through the existing scar. I don't think my obs did a better job second time around (my scar is a bit wonky!) but it will be a more experienced doctor, as because of the scarring it is a more difficult operation.

yup - second one went through the first scar. and made it longer... overhang is still there (registrar not consultant....)

they will normally book you in for cs at 38 or 39 weeks whatever happened first time.

with both mine, my waters went and we went in and they did it straight away. medically classed as an emergency then not elective, but all very calm and you jump the queue so not all bad.

there was a lot more rummaging the second time as they had to get through all the scar tissue - felt like being punched
