2nd birth experiences after 1st birth induction and forceps/assisted delivery.

Trying to decide on options for my 2nd pregnancy childbirth.
1st pregnancy resulted in an induction (which I was really against until the last minute and annoyingly talked into it) the whole thing was traumatic and resulted in an emergency situation, forceps etc. Recovery was painful and difficult and isn’t something I want to repeat again.

looking for anyone’s experiences who had difficult first labour and laboured successfully the 2nd time?

I’ve always said I’d opt for a c-section, now I’m pregnant again, I have this niggle of “if it happens naturally, on its own accord, do I labour”

I’m not being induced again and will request a section if that is needed. Only thing putting me off going straight for a section is looking after my toddler and not being able to pick them up afterwards, she’ll already feel put out with a new baby and would feel awful if I made that seem worse.

Any experiences of a section with a toddler or a labour after an assisted/induction first labour would be a great help 🙂 thank you

My first baby was identical- long induction with gels/rods & then the drip, episiotomy, forceps, PPH, tears.

My second baby I did have to be induced again but after that it was completely different! Only needed 2 gels and then my waters broke on their own and I had him in my arms 4 hours later, only a small tear and 2 days later I felt like I hadn’t even had a baby!

I was really against a section because there is only 18 months between my babies and I hated the thought of not being able to do as much with my eldest. I would have had a section if I absolutely had to but it wasn’t something I would choose x

First labour was horrendous. Induced (pitocin), back to back, every intervention there was, fourth degree tear plus episiotomy. Horrendous.

All my subsequent ones were fine. All induced, as with all of mine, water broke, and then nothing, and then nothing and then nothing, so pitocin drip for all. The rest were all quite quick, between 4-6hrs, all required a small episiotomy due to the scar tissue from the first birth but not much required and they caused no discomfort and all healed really quickly and well. Didn’t need any interventions in any of these births.

First labour not pleasant, ventouse, episiotomy & bad tearing. 2nd was easy in comparison, I did tear but the labour and birth were much quicker and less traumatic.

I had similar first birth and second and third where natural no induce and no c section
Hope all goes well

My first labour was induced and resulted in an episiotomy (no forceps) but slow and painful recovery. Second was very “easy” in comparison. Around a 5 hour labour and less than 10 mins pushing and a second degree tear that felt like nothing in comparison- I was walking in the woods with baby in the carrier at 3 days old- I could barely make it to the kitchen after my first.

My first was an induction resulting in an episiotomy with forceps and it left me feeling a bit traumatised, so I was really worried about giving birth again.
The second birth was fab - baby arrived 1.5 hours after contractions started. Felt completely different and a much nicer experience.
A midwife said to me that when a pregnant woman calls to say they’re coming into hospital etc to have their second baby everyone wants to be their delivery midwife as generally they’re the easiest births.

1st was emergency c section, 2nd planned c section. Apart from a doctor's strike and delay of 2 days the 2nd time was alot easier. 1st time I had been awake 36hrs by the time I had my baby and was exhausted. 2nd we could plan, drop toddler off at friend's, prepare her by saying where mummy and daddy was going and then in evening she came in to see me. A week or so before we started reading topsy and Tim and the new baby.

Same birth experience as you. Second time I had an elective section (twins). I was worried about what recovery would be like, especially with a toddler but it was so much easier than the first time round. I also think that an elective section would be a very different experience to a labour that results in a section. It was really calm, recovery pain was minimal, and I could sit down! Hope it all goes well for you whatever you choose
