Positive recovery stories after 3B degree tear?

Hi there,

I had my little one 4 weeks ago and i unfortunately had a 3B degree tear.
From the midwives checks of the wound I’ve had I’ve been told it has been stitched up very well.

I imagined an awful recovery but it hasn’t been as bad as I was expecting, yes I was very sore mostly for the first 2 weeks and has slowly gotten better each day. Still bit uncomfortable at times but overall I feel I’m healing really well so far (touch wood)

one thing though I notice when I need to move my bowels I need to go there and then like quickly! I will be seen at a perineal clinic 3 months postpartum, so I know I can question things.

I was just looking for some positive stories after a 3rd degree tear when it comes to pelvic floor strength, if the urgency of needing to poop is normal only initially and goes away? And being intimate with your other half?(of course once healed up)

Thank you for reading ☺️ x

I only had 2b, but also had the when I need to go, I need to go! Your recovery might be slower, but it had passed within 2 months for me. Eating plenty of fibre and drinking enough helps keep things regular and predictable. I suspect hormones played a part too. Intimacy: I'll let you know if the baby ever learns to sleep... neither of us are ever in the mood

Hello, congratulations on the birth of your baby. Sorry to hear you have torn. I wanted to share my perspective as I was scouring the web in my postpartum for hope. I've posted on here a few times already asking about it ...

I had, what was initially thought to be 3B tear in January 2025. I was devastated. I had urgency to use the loo for a few weeks and struggled to complete bowel movements. I was religious with my pelvic floor exercises NHS Squeezey app is great to remind you. I had physio from pelvic health physio in the NHS. Over time everything has improved I no longer have any urgency can hold wind and bowel movements until near a toilet.

Sadly after endo anal ultrasound 10 months postpartum my tear was reclassified to a 3C which in someways validated the tough recovery but made me sad for the impact on future birth choice.

Anyhow sorry for the long reply just wanted to say it does get better, keep at the pelvic floor exercises and prioritize water and fibre intake to keep things regular and smooth etc.

Take care and wishing you well for your recovery xx
