What are the chances of a complicated medicalised birth after a straight forward water birth?

DD was a straight forward water birth. 12 days late but no pain relief other than the water and only a small graze.

What are the chances that my second labour will be similar or does it have equal chance of being a medicalised full works birth?

I am having the same fear's my ds birth was uncomplicated and very easy. Waters broke at 9pm constant contractions went to hospital at 11pm pushed for half an hour was out at 1am home at half past 2 in the morning! Im 38+3 with ds2 and having a hb starting to panic that it will be long drawn out and complicated because i was lucky the first time. Sits in corner waiting eagerly for some insight.

shall i keep quiet...i had 2 normal no pain-relief births and then dd3 ecs.

My first birth was straightforward and un complicated.

My second birth was a little more complicated due to dd2 being OP, but even so she still managed to come out fine.

Try not to worry! If it's been fine the first time, the chances are high it will be fine the second time.

why was that Cazzybabs?

cazzybabs · 17/06/2008 11:58

sorry i meant to add thst was because i let them talk me into being induced as i was hospitalised with high bp....it was all a b it stressful.

That's interesting cazzybabs.

I've had two pain relief free births, and am due to have a second home birth this october. I suppose it just shows that you can't always plan what's going to happen.

And my friend (should I stop scare mongering) - has had 3 Hbs and had to go to hispital during her HB as the 4th didn't want to come.

I don't think you're scaremongoring cazzybabs.

I think it's good for all of us to stay realistic and open to the possibility that things don't always go according to your birth plan.

But if you've had a good first birth, then the chances are high you'll have a good second birth.

cazzybabs · 17/06/2008 12:18

well fingers crossed you'll both be fine - 1 push and out shoots a perfect sleepy (but not too sleepy) baby.

spongesrlovely · 17/06/2008 12:24

I dont think your scaremongering either cazzybabs i think i been kidding myself for 9 months that it'll be just the same but in reality it probably wont be. Just hope i havent left it too late to prepare myself mentally that it might not all go so smoothly. Its hard to think of possibles when the mw at nearly every appointment has said "you'll be fine no problems" reassuring but not very realistic.

When pregnant with ds2 I talked to my OB/GYN about how scared I was about having to have a C-section. He looked at me and said, "You're young, healthy, and have already had one uncomplicated vaginal delivery, don't worry you won't need a C-section"

For what it's worth ds2 was about a 3 hour labor with 30 min of pushing. No complications.
