Nightwear after a c-section and what else to take to hospital?

You would think I wouldn't need to ask this as this is my third section! But I honestly just can't remember from last time.

It is an elective section and from what I can remember from last time, they put you in a hospital gown for the op and you stay in that after.

What I can't remember is how long you stay in that and then when you can change into your own nightwear. I am assuming last time I changed into pyjamas as I never wear nightgowns. But I have read recently on here about the nightmare of catheters and pjs. Maybe I stayed in hospital gown until catheter came out last time?

Can anyone who had one recently (or has a better memory than me!) tell me?

Also, what else to take? I will be in maximum 2 days, maybe less.

Thanks!

i would bring a nightdress becse at least then if your catheterised there shouldnt b a problem and it won't rub on your c-section scar like pj bottoms might!

hope this helps!

I think I had on shortie pj's, so like a vest top and shorts. I probably wore it with a normal nightie though. My catheter came out 24 hours after the c/s, but they'd have taken it out earlier if I wasn't so wobbly on my feet (so couldn't walk to the loo).

take big huge comfy pants - I laughed at the ones my mum brought in for me then I lived in them for the next 3 weeks!

I had definitely changed into a nightie of my own by visiting time - it's in the photos! I'm not normally a nightie wearer, but got a nice pink and grey one from BHS for the purpose of the catheter.

Just had a third section ... gown for a few hours after op, then the lovely bedbath and changed into a nightie. I usually wear pjs but took a nightie for the first night each time ... better for cathether and for mw's to check your loss etc. After that it was definitely pjs for me. Hope it goes well for you.

I wore a nightie for my cs and wore it afterwards as well.

Take:
(1) A big dressing gown to hide the terrible surgical stockings and trailing epidural wires
(2) Big granny knickers and lots of them.

After I left recovery (two hours after surgery) I put my PJs on and lived in them for a week or so.

WMMC - How come you were able to come home after 2 hrs? I had to stay in 4 bloody days!

Agree with everything said above BTW (big pants, nighty)

whomovedmychocolate · 15/06/2008 22:04

No, I was in recovery for 2 hours, then taken up to a ward, I was in hospital for ten days as my liver was bollocksed from pre-eclampsia (hence the cs).

Debenhams do some nice thigh length cotton nighties which are soft enough that you can hoick them down for nursing.

M&S are patron saints of ginormous pants.

mollysawally · 15/06/2008 22:15

wmmc - Sorry, read your post wrong, poor you.

I got my granny bloomers from M&S, I brought nursing nighties from mothercare

Definatley a couple of nighties. I had taken pj's in when i went in to have ds1, i ended up with em c/s and it was a nightmare having the catheter tube through my pj leg.
Had elective c/s in dec and was pt in hospital gown for the operation, changed into my own nightie a few hours later and was much easier.
Also, loads of big knickers and plenty pads as well.

I wore a top-t shirt, whatever and sarongs. And my oldest birkenstocks
