Episiotomy scar bleeding 5 months after giving birth

I know I need to contact my GP but I’m just lost as to what to push for. Surely this can’t be normal but I feel like I’ve just been gaslighted by so many medical professionals so far.

Gave birth 20 weeks ago. First baby. Forceps, episiotomy and second degree tear.

From my point of view my episiotomy has been problematic from the start and I’ve been worried about how it was healing due to pain and bleeding.

Went back to Maternity assessment unit three times at one week, two weeks and 6 weeks. Each time I was told it’s absolutely fine, ‘healed perfectly’, and generally made to feel like I’m insane and wasting everyone’s time. At the 2 week time it was actually a GP that sent me to the hospital saying something was definitely wrong but they said they didn’t know what she was talking about.

At the 6 week time I literally said to the nurse / midwife that it had been bleeding that morning but she made me think I was wrong and the blood must have come from another source!

Basically the last few months I’ve found my scar feeling sore again, particularly around my period and I also noticed blood when wiping. I actually thought this was piles and have been doing tests and stool tests at the GP but today I realised the blood is definitely coming from my scar and it looks really sore and purple, just like I noticed at 6 weeks.

I know I need to go back to the GP but I don’t know what I should be pushing for anymore as this will be my 4th attempt and I don’t want to just come out of there (or a subsequent hospital appointment) and be told I’m mad and it’s fine. What could be wrong? Who would be best placed to help? It’s really upsetting me

@Lifelifelife21 it is not typical, don't doubt yourself, they have not reassured you. It could be granulation ?

Personally, I'd ask/insist the GP refers you to a gynaecologist.

Maybe as your 5months out you will be listened to a bit more. It definitely shouldn't still be bleeding but it could be a few things, including a pocket that hasn't healed properly behind the scar or over granulated (kind of overhealing tissue) areas which would fit more with just a bit of bleeding, any sinuses/pockets probably would be different kids of discharge.

You know your body best so just keep going back xx
