Waterbirth & Entonox

I'm thinking about having a waterbirth and was wondering whether I could still have entonox after I get into the pool. Has anyone any experience of this?

Yes, you can. I had a waterbirth in hospital and entonox was somehow attached to the pool. I believe that if you have a home waterbirth, midwives can bring a cannister along, though I'm sure someone else can confirm this.

P.S. I really recommend a waterbirth!

yes you can, at home in the hospital or in a birthing unit
good luck!

another vote for water birth with gas and air - i had a 9lb 4 ds with no tears - sure it was due to the lovely warm water!

Thank you all for getting back to me, this all sounds quite promising.

The water is great. I spent a lot of my labour (for my 10lb 4oz son!) in the water and although I had to get out for the actual birth it helped me manage the birth with just entonox for pain relief. Do make sure someone is with you at all times though - my partner had to hoist me out of the water a few times as the entonox made me quite sleepy!!!
Also it's worth telling the hospital you'd like a waterbirth when you first phone them in early labour, as many places only have one pool and the midwives can save the room for you.
Good luck!
