Episiotomy recovery

How long did it take for you to recover after episiotomy?
I had my daughter 10 weeks ago and had episiotomy and second degree tear. I am still experiencing a bit of pain mainly at the end of the day when I’ve done a lot/walked a lot. My scar also doesn’t look need there’s a bit of a lump. Another concern is me and my partner tried to DTD the other day and he couldn’t even get the tip in without it starting to hurt we used plenty of lube a condom and I was also not dry if you get what I mean 🙈…

I tried booking a gp app today (ours is online request) I put on there that I was still in pain struggled with intercourse and they text back saying they’ve booked an appointment for the 19th January which is in 3 week! I went back on the booking and filmed in the form again and this was the doctors reply.
It this right?

It was a few months for me

I had the same experience as you with my first boy. Second degree tear and episiotomy, I couldn’t walk properly and was in pain for weeks. Please be kind to yourself, it takes a long time to fully heal from childbirth. Your doctor will be able to advise you better but take things slowly.

I felt back more or less back to normal around the 6-7 week mark (although can’t comment on dtd as was single) but I only had an episiotomy and no tearing.
It might be worth contacting your health visitor for advice?

@Tiedyeegg i thought about contacting my HV but I thought they was there for baby advice not advice on the mums

They are qualified midwives with masters degrees. They are are there to help mums and babies.

two episiotomies here. Both took a while to heal but they didn’t give me any bother. However my scar would still hurt and send shooting pains sometimes, and still does a little sometimes when my period is due randomly!

I had red light therapy for mine, it really helped, might be worth looking into, OP :)

I had a third degree tear and episiotomy and it took me at least about 3 months to even be able to sit down without a gutter cushion! I used to take it everywhere with me in the pram basket, even on the tube. The scar was very uncomfortable for many months afterwards. I did exercises with a Kegel 8 device to strengthen my pelvic floor, starting at about 3 months. But even that was uncomfortable and caused bleeding to start with. The physio I saw described the scar as healed, but the tissue as still very fragile and only just suitable for very light massage.
By all means do get the scar checked, but what you’re describing sounds fairly normal in my (limited) experience.

Took about a year to be comfortable for me

3rd degree tear and episiotomy. Was tight having sex for a good 18 months afterwards! The episiotomy site hurt much more than the tear.

I didn't attempt sex for six months after mine but the first time we did it was painful and we stopped. I know it's rubbish but you might just need more time. Hopefully the GP will examine you and reassure you that it's just healing slowly.

Congratulations on your daughter! To be honest I think 3 weeks is acceptable, there is no quick fix here, it just takes time. Doing pelvic floor exercises should help. If they are concerned about how the scar has healed you may get referred to a specialist, but that may take some time to get seen and it may be that the pain had subsided by then anyway.
