How long were your subsequent labours?

Our 2nd daughter is due to make her appearance anytime now and I have been told to expect her to arrive faster and earlier than our 1st - who I delivered in 3h 46m from start to finish at 37+6.

I was just wondering how long peoples subsequent labours were and whether your 2nd/3rd/4th etc arrived any earlier than your first?

Oh gosh, reading all your comments it seems like the general consensus is 2nd babies do come quicker 😅. My mum is supposed to be coming on the 28th to look after our daughter when the big event happens (if I’m still pregnant by then), otherwise she’s 3 hours away so it’s making me nervous she might not get here in time, in which case DH will be with our daughter and I’ll be giving birth on my own… which seems a bit scary 😅

If it’s any consolation I spoke to a midwife once (about working during Covid) and she said they love it when a partner can’t be there because they get to fully support the woman in a more involved way, so if it does end up like that (hopefully not) but maybe it will be ok in a different nice way, in the old days often women only birthed with women to support didn’t they?

Thank you everyone for your replies! I ended up being admitted to hospital for 4 days before I was induced and ended up hating an EMCS so defo not what I had expected 😅

My first was 23 hours - hospital birth, epidural, forceps delivery, awful experience!
Second was 8 hours - homebirth, no medication, a few pushes and she was out!

My second birth was quicker. The other thing of note was that I waited until my contractions were minutes apart like they say but with my second they got closer and closer as we drove to the hospital (which is not far away) and so whilst we made it in plenty of time (an hour), in hindsight, I wish I’d come in a bit earlier!

First was about 12 hours but it was probably longer because I had pre-eclampsia so was in pain anyway! DD and I were both distressed and it ended up being a ventouse delivery. She was 40+6 (but I think they got the dates wrong).

Second was much less. Woke up at 7:30 with mild contractions, got to the hospital at 12:45, DS was born at 13:05. If we'd got stuck in traffic he would've been born in the car, I'm sure of it. He was 38+5 and clearly NOT hanging around in there!
