I'm currently expecting our second baby. My first was born by emergency c-section as her heart rate was dropping during labour. I got to 10cm and pushing but she was acynclitic and stuck, she was just under 10lbs which didn't help. Due to a medical condition I can't have ventouse, forceps or an epidural. I had to have my first c-section under general anaesthetic because of my medical condition too, which meant that neither me or my partner were there for her birth. This is the main reason I want a VBAC, I'm still gutted that I missed my daughters birth. I'd also like to avoid the c-section recovery with a 2 year old as well this time.
My consultant doesn't seem very encouraging about my chances of a successful VBAC. He's happy to let me try but he's said he thinks its 60%+ chance of needing another emergency cesarean, which has left me feeling a bit deflated and not in a very positive mindset. I feel like my daughters acynclitic presentation was the main factor in struggling last time, and she was in that position for the last couple of weeks leading to labour, so I'm hoping this baby will be better positioned and that'll ease my concerns. Also hoping this baby is maybe a little smaller.
Just wondering if there is anyone willing to share any stories of successful VBAC? Anything you would recommend doing in the lead up to birth? I've started exercises for positioning and pelvic flexibility but if there's anything specific that I can do to increase my chances of success I will!
