Is labour starting - 36 weeks?

Hi - just a bit of advice please - have been feeling rather 'odd' all day and have (tmi) emptied my bowls in a perfectly healthy way 7 times today (which is very unusual for me)! Feeling fine food wise. Quite emotional/hormonal - kind of want to cry a bit, and for the last three hours or so I have had pains down there which aren't what I would contractions, but are painful although not horrific. My tummy goes hard when the pains come and its in my legs and bottom a bit too. Certainly nothing show stopping. No show, nothing else, 36 weeks with number 3 and apparently measuring 2 weeks too big having been moved a week anyway at 12 weeks, so not sure what's going on - anyone got any views having read that? I had pains last Saturday all afternoon but nothing happened - I had cleaned out two garages so think perhaps had done too much (for a change) but now not so sure. Don't want to ring midwife as nothing really to speak to her about as nothing too serious, but wanting to see if anyone had any thoughts.

I had the same feelings as you around that time with my #2. I was convinced I was going into labor however ds2 didn't make his arrival until 3 weeks later.

Relax and if pains persist call the MW.

I'd say try to relax, take a couple of paracetamol and contact the hospital if you can't feel baby moving or your waters go. Apart from that, not much the MW can do I don't think.

I went into premature labour with ds, the pains were as you have described. They did stop after 12 hours though. I would have a bath, sometimes this can help as the pain can ease off and phone the hospital. I hope everything's Ok.

A warm bath.

chilledmama · 08/06/2008 19:35

Definately have a nice warm bath. If you still feel off after 30 minutes in bath then things might be happening...good luck whatever!!

TinkerbellesMum · 08/06/2008 19:41

Try and relax, if you are getting pain because of over doing things then your body is sending you a message! Have a nice warm bath and do whatever you normally do to relax.

In the meantime, start keeping track of your pain, by writing down the time each one started. If it is BH then it should be erratic and not time-able. If it isn't you will have a record of your contractions.

Don't worry too much, 36-40 weeks is considered term and we premature mum's were counting the days till 36 weeks because that is usually when we were allowed home and if s/he is measuring 38 weeks then s/he should do well.

Spent all of last night in hospital as the pains got regular and painful. Monitored till 2am, they told me I would probably be going home with a baby - needless to say - I am at home with no baby! I was kept in over night as we are so far from the hospital and if my waters broke before the head was engaged then there was a chance that the cord could come out first and that would be a disaster for the baby - literally! Slept for a couple of hours, contractions didn't stop but were a lot less strong and my cervix is still 100% normal and not dilating. So all in all - not much fun, at least when you have contractions you want to be achieving something - I have achieved absolutely nothing. Felt pretty sore all day, contractions sore but more like pains now rather than contractions. strong braxtons but what was happening last night weren't braxtons but contractions. Anyway, hopefully the pains will stop soon, the baby has moved now for almost 24 hours which I think is what the pains are. Thanks for all your advice and help.

Poor you! At least you have a bit more time to get yourself prepared. How are you feeling today?

WidgetWB · 10/06/2008 21:46

Felt rotten yesterday, very low and sore, but now much better thank you. Had appointment with consultant today and now have a whole new problem with having to chose c section or natural delivery! See thread above c-section versus natural birth - and please feel free to add to it and help me out!!
