Carrying baby three floors up/ down

Hello mothers, was wandering if someone can share some ideas how we can travel with our baby three floors up/ down from parking to flat - there is no lift. I will become first time mom next month and am nervous around carrying baby

Carry the baby in the car seat.

Baby carriers are good, if you have a local sling library you can try different ones out and hire, most also do free stretchy wrap hire for the first 12 weeks and then a small fee for more structured ones

I just carried mine in my arms most of the time, unless we were going out on foot, and then they were in the baby carrier before we left the house.

Going forward, you need a good baby carrier so you can carry them hands free. But not all are suitable for a brand new baby, so the car seat sounds best.

I love my sling, feels secure and leaves hands free for carrying bags/opening doors etc - a stretchy wrap, close caboo, or mamaruga zensling are lovely options for newborns! But a local sling library or 'baby wearing uk' Facebook page will be able to advise.

all the best for baby xx

We just carried him in our arms or used the car seat :)

Go to your local sling library. I liked a stretchy wrap with newborn then had different carriers as they got bigger. Means you are hands free to carry other things.

Whatever you do itll be a bit of a shag tbh.

I'd just hold and carry the baby against your body and walk up or get Decent sling.

Def worth seeing if there is a sling library in your area...

Babybjorn was good for newborn phase i got one for £5 on vinted.

We had an antipop (sp?) And an ergo 360
I preferred the antipop.

I wouldnt be carrying them in a car seat or anything like that you'll injure yourself (they are heavy and awkward).

When newborn I would carry mine up the stairs in their car seat.

EarlGreywithLemon · 13/11/2025 20:13

I’m not a sling person but I have an Ergobaby Omni 360 I used for all our three children from newborn. That will leave your hands free to bring up anything else you need with you. And they become more and more wiggly as they grow! A car seat can also work, but they can be quite heavy.

AmberBeaker · 13/11/2025 20:15

Do be careful carrying a carseat, it's hard on your pelvic floor, it's advised to avoid carrying anything heavier than your baby for the 1st 6 weeks. Obviously sometimes you can't avoid it, but any time there is a 2nd person with you, insist they carry. Sorry bit random but I feel women don't get enough advice about protecting themselves during post partum

I’d get a carrier that works from birth so you have options and can work out what’s best. I couldn’t use a wrap and couldn’t carry the car seat either as I have issues with my hands. But I had a newborn carrier that worked really well.
