Maternity wards.

The maternity ward at my local hospital closed about 2 years ago. There was a huge petition and I'm sure I read that they had reopened it. But I'm not sure. I asked the lady who did my scan but she wasn't sure either(despite working there).
I'm not going to see my MW until I'm 24 weeks and I'm now 13 weeks.

Will the consultant who I will be seeing in just over a week know or is there anyway of finding out online?

I'd rather give birth there as it is only 10 minutes away rather than an hour away like the hospital I had DS in.

Also if it is open again can I change where I deliver? As the MW has already put on my notes where I'm having the baby

if you can bear to say which hospital it is, it's quite possible a MNer may know.

Also google the name of the Trust (not the hospital) and have a look at their website, though mostly they are remarkably bad at telling you any stuff you might want to know.

you can change where you deliver at any time, i changed at 36 weeks, infact you can just turn up anywhere in labour, with your notes.
you should be seeing your mw every four weeks at this stage though, and then every two after 34 weeks

Which is your local hospital, kayz? A lot of hospitals have websites, as do local newspapers, might be worth just doing a search for your local hospital.

Its Malton Hospital where I want to deliver and Scarborough is the other hospital.

I did look on their website but couldn't really find the info I needed.

I had a bit of a bad time with the staff at Scarborough as well as it being a bit far away so would rather not go there again.

This suggests that it's open but possibly going to be closed - is this the right one?

kayzisexpecting · 06/06/2008 20:04

It is the right one yes. See I'm confused as it was closed because my friend had her baby in a layby because Malton was closed and she had to get to Scarborough. That was March 2007.

Why do they need to close all these maternity wards???

It's open at the moment according to what I can find, but yes, threatened with closure. There's a maternity unit there, although there's a 31% transfer to Scarborough from it.

this website looks useful

Thanks Elkiedee.

I'm going to ask my consultant and see what he says. The MW I saw after I had DS said I should consider a homebirth as apparently I had a fast labour and I'm not to keen on the idea and Malton would be ideal.
