Did you giggle, feel happy on gas and air?

Ds3 aged 14 is going to have it at the dentist. Dentist said it's great and everyone gets really happy and giggly on it. She also said it's the same as the gas and air you get in labour. I had gas and air for 3 of my births but don't remember being giggly or happy, just little waves of temporary relief of pain. But maybe it feels different when you're having a tooth taken out instead of a baby!

No I felt sick and dizzy, almost drunk only used it a couple times and then had to stop as didn’t like the feelings.

Brutallytired · 15/10/2025 10:27

Not giggly as such, more drunk - I did hallucinate that I had a flock of pet geese in my back garden that I needed to feed...

ShesTheAlbatross · 15/10/2025 10:28

My mum did, she said it was a lovely floaty giddy feeling.

I hated it, felt really queasy, and only had a few puffs before stopping because I really really hate nausea!

Jellybunny56 · 15/10/2025 10:28

I had it a few years ago after an operation and I remembered it being a giggly/happy/tipsy feeling. I also had it last year when giving birth to my daughter, looking forward to that feeling, and it didn’t have the same impact but honestly I’m not sure anything would have made me giggly during labour🤣

LuckyNumberFive · 15/10/2025 10:29

I had gas and air as a teen and was very giggly on it. Had it in labour 2 decades later and it was the only thing keeping me from wanting to throw myself out the window, no giggles that time.

Hoodedfinger · 15/10/2025 10:31

I thought it felt like that nice stage of being drunk, when you've had enough but not too much.

Dorrieisalittlewitch · 15/10/2025 10:32

It made me hallucinate. I thought the student midwife was about to get eaten by the big green snake wrapped around my thigh. However I had a lot... very long labour with a stuck baby.

FurForksSake · 15/10/2025 10:32

No, I had a panic attack.

CopperWhite · 15/10/2025 10:33

Not during the Labour, but afterwards when they gave it back to me to do something with the placenta or whatever they were doing, it made me very silly, so they took it away.

No - had it with two labours, don't think it made a blind bit of difference tbh. Didn't feel any relief, giggly or drunk. First one was just agony with no relief until the spinal, second time everything happened quickly so the midwife just sort of thrust out onto my hand as I was pushing so not convinced I got the benefit 😆

Needlenardlenoo · 15/10/2025 10:33

Yes, I was out of my tree. I felt like I'd had half a bottle of gin.

SockQueen · 15/10/2025 10:42

Not giggly, but dizzy and relaxed. I think if I hadn't been in loads of pain, maybe I'd have got more of the euphoric feeling. I found it really useful for labour.

rainbowstardrops · 15/10/2025 10:52

I had it with both of my labours and didn’t feel giggly! I felt a bit drunk and I remember slurring my words.

vitalityvix · 15/10/2025 11:02

I had it in labour with my second and in the early stages it was fantastic! I felt like I was floating somewhere, only vaguely aware of what others were doing around me. Sadly, as the pain intensified I felt no effects of it whatsoever. Didn’t stop me chugging on it for dear life though.

cornbunting · 15/10/2025 11:08

I felt absolutely plastered, proper fall-down drunk, but not distressed, sick, or giggly. DH tells me I was very affectionate but I don't have very clear memories 😂

AmberBeaker · 15/10/2025 11:12

Not giggly but totally zoned out I was saying all sorts of mad stuff to DH! It didn't make me sick like it does some.

ChickalettasGiblets · 15/10/2025 11:24

I felt very drunk, which was great until it made me very sick 😂 I’m one of those unfortunate people who can’t tolerate that or opiate medication because apparently my stomach is a delicate flower lol

Deadringer · 15/10/2025 11:30

It made me vomit

Oaktreet · 15/10/2025 11:31

No, I didn't feel giggly. I felt detached from myself. The pain was there but it felt somewhere else which made it easier to bare if you see what I mean. I love the feeling of gas and air haha.

purpleygrey · 15/10/2025 11:31

it made me really sick and light headed.

Subliminal885 · 15/10/2025 11:31

I got really sweary and shouty on it . Did almost nothing for the pain but was in advanced labour by that point

Pleasegetmeacoffeesotired · 15/10/2025 11:32

I was very disappointed that I was never given the opportunity to try the gas and air! I always thought it looked fun.

egganbacon · 15/10/2025 11:33

I had it in labour and I thought I was in a nightclub was yelling at husband to turn the music down 😂Thought it was bloody marvellous!!

TheVeryThing · 15/10/2025 11:36

All it did for me was take the edge off the pain, no other effects at all.

TimSamandLulu · 15/10/2025 11:37

No, I felt drunk and out of control, and I personally don’t like that feeling at all. I never drink alcohol. I couldn’t manage to say what I wanted to say which was distressing. I had to stick with it though - it was quite a traumatic labour (drip etc) and they refused me an epidural due to being too advanced.
