Term plus 12 days.......need advice/morale/support.....help?

Hiya Girls
Hoping one of you lovelies can offer me a small or large dose of morale please.

I am term + 12 days - so 42 on Thursday. Have been booked in for home birth - no resistance from pro home birthing community midwives. Low risk, trouble free pregnancy. Blood pressure steady and constant throughout, baby measuring correct for term. LMP was registered as 27/5 but scan brought it back to 22/5.

Since 40+2 I have had 3 attempted sweeps the 3rd being today - can you hear the desperation increase? Each sweep has been aborted, despite the myth that having already one child your cervix never completely closes, mine has other ideas and is closed tighter than a ducks arse and is so very posterior that today she wrote ++ posterior on my notes and she had long fingers.

I am booked in for a CTG on Thursday, where I know a sympathetic registrar will start a barrage of scaremongering stories about how I am putting babies life at risk by not accepting inducement readily like a good little girl.

Anyway - I am risking homebirth as they are not keen to do homebirth after 42 weeks and I really want one - so very much - but my body/baby doesn't appear to agree.

I don't know what else to do, i've tried relaxing, sex, evening primrose, bouncing on tramp - jesus I have even done super hula on nintendo Wii - that was harsh - all 6 mins!

any advice, help, morale, support greatly appreciated at this time....not planning on any more kids and don't want to be railroaded into a birth thats out of my control completely -

debs

Wow! Well done! Know it's so hard to hold out especially when they start spouting figures. Try to remember that they have to protect themselves, so will always give worse case scenarios.
Think the Tues induction is a good compromise for now. You can always change your mind, but at least it's there if you want it. Now, go get some pineapple and curry and try and get some nookie in!
Let us know how you get on!

Well taking it from date of ovulation in that cycle I would be 14 days over on Monday - so currently I am term + 10 days.

Ironically my LMP is much more accurate....

Broadie well done for standing your ground It can't have been easy.

Like MMH I had a failed induction 10 weeks ago and ended with a CS. I was impatient myself at the time and was quite happy to be induced but I think with 20/20 hindsight I can see that the baby wasn't ready to come out and I wish I'd known to ask for monitoring.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to go by your own dates, particularly if you know the dates they're giving you are inaccurate.

Thanks - its quite empowering actually, and will continue to be empowering as long as I am not one of the statistics they refer to, and I do actually go into labour this weekend.

It definately was not easy - not by a long chalk - I can see why first time mums fold - its pretty intimidating. I lost count how many times he mentioned the words still birth. He intimated that the death of my unborn child was my responsibility as he had given me the facts. I came out and thought I know I am right, I know I am right -

God I hope I am right......argghghhh - right cup of tea and then tweak nipples, then sex, lots of sex

Thanks for all those tips, but I have news.........I'm only in labour! whoop whoop!period pain cramps this morning in bed have turned into contractions - all in the pelvis and back at the moment - so I guess thats the cervix starting to dilate and shorten as it was still very high and posterior last night at hosp.

HOORAY!!! Good luck and come back to tell us what you had!!

Broadie · 07/06/2008 10:18

Morning!

Maddy May was born 7.30pm yesterday 8lbs at home.

MW came out at 3 ish and examined me - said was 1-2 cm dialated, hung out for a bit as done examination and wanted to ensure it didn't esculate. Called 2nd MW an hour later as contractions continued 3 in 10 mins but lasting over a min and I was now starting to zone out. Was allowed in pool. 2nd MW examined me on arrival and still only 1-2cm dilated, she checked 2 hours later (about 6.31) and I was only 3cm. Good god - still not in established labour! 30 mins later hubby put dd to bed, 30 mins later Maddy was born. 59 mins after last examination. 2nd stage less than a minute....

I was in pool bearing down saying to midwife - pressure.....bum.....pushing......she was asking me to stop and breath so they could examine me, but the pushing was completely involuntary and I simply could not control it. Next thing I was saying heads out, body coming. All the midwives ran to the other side of the pool.

It was really intense and empowering and scary and overwheling and wonderful and crazy - I wouldn't change a thing!

Had a natural 3rd stage - which took a wee while.

So no pain relief, at home just as I had planned. Eldest DD was born 10/10 and this one 6/6 - how freaky is that?

Breastfeeding really well. Afterpains are a bitch though!

Thanks for all your support ladies - it really helped.....
