just wondering peoples opinions. Just had my little girl & my partner wants to name her Lottie. My name is Charlotte & I’ve never had a nickname, is it too similar and silly for to agree to calling her Lottie?

I've never heard of Lottie as a name in itself. It's always a nickname for Charlotte. I don't think it works as an adult name really.

Lottie is a nickname for Charlotte
it’s too similar to your name
congrats on your new baby 💐

I literally know someone called Charlotte, she has quite a few children and one of her daughters is actually Lottie! Go for it if you like

Jannergirl · 24/09/2025 06:28

I agree with the above poster, if you like it, go for it! My name is incorporated in my daughter’s - think Leigh and Kayleigh- it wasn’t deliberate but I think it’s quite sweet.

Have you decided yet @Imoro29? Do you love the name Lottie as well?

Congratulations too on your lovely new DD Smile

Imoro29 · 28/09/2025 10:33

We’re registering her tomorrow so got until then. I do love it, & she really suits it but im still undecided if it’s too similar, even though ive never been called Lottie myself. I think it’s going to be Lottie or Thea one or the other.

I think Lottie is a nice name, but I really like Thea.

Sorry but I always think of it as a nickname for Charlotte. Nothing wrong with a mum calling a daughter after herself though- men do it all the time with their sons!
Thea is lovely too and a better choice if you want to avoid the Charlotte connection

Slothey · 28/09/2025 11:14

People will assume you’ve named her after yourself. Plenty of boys have their dads’ names so it’s not a totally weird thing to happen, but it does look quite egotistical.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 28/09/2025 12:26

I know an older Lottie, and it suits her. I've never even thought to ask if she is technically a Charlotte!

In any case, I imagine that you will eventually become, "Lottie's mum" when she is older and at play-groups and school.

Like PPs have said, a lot of men have called their sons after them, so I hope that most people wouldn't bat an eyelid at a Charlotte/Lottie mother/daughter combination.

Congratulations on your LO!

I’ve got a Lottie, not a diminutive of Charlotte, it’s a very old family name and a name in its own right. I think it’s lovely.

Marcipix · 20/10/2025 09:49

It’s lovely. Use it if you want.
It’s not really that similar as it has a completely different beginning.

crappycrapcrap · 20/10/2025 09:58

If you’re not known as Lottie it’s fine, it’s a nice name. Thea is also really lovely.
