2nd baby due 17 months after c-section. Will I be recommended to have a section again as it's so soon?

Long title but I'm sure someone will know the answer to this. Is there some sort of standard period between births where the medical profession say that you shouldn't attempt natural labour too soon after a section?

TIA

I am due 21 months after my first emcs, I have been encouraged to try for a vb. I don't think they will automatically suggest a section.

Oh really ? Sounds good to me. Someone once said to me that it was about 2 years you should wait (!!) and at the time it didn't mean anything to me as wasn't in that situation. Funnily enough, now that I am I'm a lot more concerned !!

My emcs was such a disaster (they thought they might have stitched my cervix into the wound) that I will try very hard not to have another one. Mind you, sometimes it dawns on me that planned c sections tend to be easier to do....

They WHAT ??????? My God woman, you're bloomin' brave to even get pregnant again. Well done you. I can understand both points of view to be honest when you've been through something like that. A) not to want the surgery again after last time and B) having a 'nice/calm' cs without any panic and avoiding the chance of having another emcs. When are you due ?

due in october - what about you?

16m between mine, 1st was EmCS. Consultant left the decision up to me, but warned me that they monitor VBACs pretty carefully as there is a higher risk of problems. Therefore not much chance of lovely floaty water / active birth etc cos of being attached to bloomin monitor most of the time! Still, safety first and all that..

constancereader · 02/06/2008 18:04

Yes, I was planning an active birth this time until told that I would be continuously monitored .

I am rubbish at arguing with hcp.

17m between mine. DS was EmCs at 37 weeks. Consultant agreed to VBAC with DD but I had problems with the fluid so had an elective section. Must say that elective sections rock compared to emergency ones.

Good luck and I hope you get the birth you want.

I'm due in January so am well aware that there's a long way ahead of me. Will have to keep an eye out for you constancereader to see how you progress. I had a private midwife last time who has 40 years experience and everything she advised me to do really did turn out to be the best so I'll see what she has to say on the subject. Thanks to all of you others for letting me know your experiences. Nice to have a better idea of how it will probably go.
