Lost my mucus plug how long now?

Lost part of my mucus plug this evening, jelly like 20p coin size amount, definitely different to normal discharge,

how long should I expect to wait before labour
truly begins?

this morning I had diarrhoea and have been a bit crampy, no contractions yet.

Im 36 weeks

Soon. Within a few hours for me. Good luck you’ve got this x

Trinity69 · 30/08/2025 23:16

I believe it varies. I had my l first 8 hours after I lost my plug and labour pretty much ramped up straight away. I wasn’t aware of losing my plug at all with my daughter.
Good luck!

TheChosenTwo · 30/08/2025 23:18

Last one I lost the plug around 7ish and baby came just after midnight.
Don’t remember losing it with the first 2 at all though.
But I’d say within the next 24 hours is quite likely, I do remember having diarrhoea in the lead up to having all 3 of them, mil told me it was natures way of giving the baby the easiest, less resistant, way out!

Justlikethattherearefive · 30/08/2025 23:19

I lost mine between Friday to Monday. Was assessed Monday evening (had been having irregular contractions by that point) and was 3cm. Fully dilated and regular contractions by 11am next day. Was 35+6 when baby arrived.

TaupeMember · 30/08/2025 23:19

When i lost mucus plug i was pretty much 40 weeks.

There was so much of it.

Give birth that night.

Not sure if its the same if a bit of it comes away at 36 weeks...

Hope everything goes well either way!

heroinechic · 30/08/2025 23:36

I was already in labour with my first when I lost it. With my second it came away in bits for over a week before I went into labour. If it was only the size of a 20p piece I reckon it’s just part of it that’s come away. It can regenerate! Good luck x

jackiesgirl · 30/08/2025 23:37

Mine was 3 days til my waters broke then another 2 days till I was in labour

workingitout1234 · 30/08/2025 23:38

thanks ladies. No blood in it, really scared but also so excited to meet my son

Exciting times!!

Not long now

TheChosenTwo · 30/08/2025 23:41

Good luck op, it really won’t be too much longer now, you’re so nearly there and soon enough you’ll have a lovely little bundle to cuddle and sniff!!

@heroinechic i didn’t realise it could come away in little pieces, now I think about it I think I must have lost the first 2 plugs when I was in hospital as I definitely don’t recall it happening at home! Strange isn’t it, childbirth!

EvolvedAlready · 31/08/2025 00:33

It could still be a couple of days, so try and relax your nervous system in the meantime.
good luck xx

Nursemumma92 · 31/08/2025 07:02

I lost mine around 32/33 weeks and had baby at 41+2. They can regenerate so although it could be very soon, it may be a while yet. Hope you meet your baby soon!

Blarn · 31/08/2025 07:09

It was a good couple of weeks with dd1 (not at all with dd2). It was also large, I'm not sure a piece 20p in size could be all of it. You might notice more come away.

workingitout1234 · 31/08/2025 08:47

Nothing has kicked off yet but keeping a towel close by 🤣

summerlovingvibes · 31/08/2025 08:50

For me I was 38 weeks, huge jelly plug (like a side plate size). Nothing occured at all until DD was rudely evicted by emergency c-section a few weeks later after induction failed.

So for me it gave absolutely no indication at all!

ChristmasMiracleBaby · 29/09/2025 21:47

For me it was 2 weeks before I went into labour with my first..bits of it came away.
I had a long slow labour though.. Sorry not much help.
Edit - just seen this was weeks ago.. Hopefully you've given birth by now. 😂

Ahwig · 29/09/2025 22:19

Lost plug Thursday night. Started labour pains Friday tea time, baby born early Saturday morning.

Longingforspringtime · 30/09/2025 08:03

Lost plug at 5pm following diarrhoea and baby born by 11pm after two hours in labour. Dead on 40 weeks. Not huge, but a streak of blood in it. First baby.

SushiDisco · 30/09/2025 08:55

I went into labour the day after losing mine but I know other woman who lost theirs a couple of weeks before!

autumn2025 · 30/09/2025 08:57

it varies because the mucus plug can develop again, for me I lost the mucus plug during labour.

FunnyOrca · 30/09/2025 16:08

Did everyone here lose it in one go? Mine has been coming out for about 24 hours. I’ve been into triage ans it was very bloody and they seemed content it was just mucus.

workingitout1234 · 30/09/2025 20:42

I ended up in labour on the 8th and had a very quick labour, no interventions needed

congratulations x

Lj8893 · 30/09/2025 20:54

Could be hours, could be days, could be weeks.

It regenerates and isn’t an indication of labour starting, just an indication that you are later in pregnancy, many women don’t even notice losing it.

Hopefully it’s not hours or days for you, would ideally be at least another week till your baby is here considering you are only 36 weeks.
