Did anyone/is anyone planning to do any, um, topiary before the birth?

Just wondered if there was a general norm when it comes to this?

I normally keep it short myself, but it's a bit tricky at the moment. What is everyone else planning to do? (namechangers welcome!)

Sit on loo - foot on baby step for loo, shaving mirror angled on floor, try not to fall off. It's doable.

I'm a plucker me. After a few goes you lose all sensation

I went for the full on everything off. My friends thought I was bonkers trekking into central London to see my reg lady at 38wks to have my undercarriage done. But it was just something I had to do, am sure I will be exactly the same with this one.

I am planning to have a wax before the big day. Normally I wax it anyhow as I can't stand the itching of regrowth. I figured if I am sore anyhow or have stiches the last thing you need is any added discomfort of itching. Especially when done in a rush with a Bic.

DH did some home barbering the last time. I had no idea what was going on, but he seemed to be enjoying himself judging by all the guffawing going on. He promised me he hadn't done a Nike Swoosh or some shit logo on me, which is all that mattered...

Will probably get him to plug the clippers in again for No2. Can't cope with the thought of a wax - never had one as I'm too scared of the pain...

I'm not fan of topiary but definitely have your legs waxed/ hair cut etc before the birth: afterwards you'll have other priorities but get annoyed at not having had it done when you had the time iyswim

OMG I was sooooooo embarassed. I tried to do it myself but obviously couldn't see very well. Midwife commented that I had interesting lopsided topiary when in the birthing pool.

Get it done properly!!!

I didn't wax but I did have a pedicure a few days before the birth of ds1, and the nurse did comment on how nice my feet looked. I told them I wanted them to look nice for the people on that end of things.

i used a remington bikini trimmer and a mirror - a good halfway house. Had a wax a few months back when my nethers hadn't seen the light of day for a while and it was agony a. greater blood flow to that area and b. long hairs. If you do have a wax I suggest a little trim first - apparently shorter hairs are easier and less painful to remove. I mentioned it to my midwife when she said she was going to give me a sweep next week and she said that they have seen so many fannies they don't even notice any more so personally I cannot be bothered!

It will make you feel better to do it, but really it will be the last thing on your mind at the time.......

From a hygiene point of view too, the less you've got going on downstairs, the easier it is to keep clean during the weeks of blood loss etc (sorry if TMI!).

jellyforbrains · 02/06/2008 17:18

Yes, was going to say the same as SlipOfTheTongue. Is much more hygienic to have not much there when you are bleeding for weeks afterwards.

Am planning on using my trimming machine (can't remember what it's called!) and then shaving the edges for a neat bikini line. Can't wax there as I find it much too painful and get v bad ingrowing hairs.
