C Section Jabs

Hey - keep it short and sweet just want to hear others opinions.

I have been given 6 weeks worth of Jabs after being told originally it was 10 days. When I queried why they said the point score for risk factor was over 3 and so it was recommended I do 6 weeks worth of Jabs. Don’t really know what my risk factors were, BMI I’d imagine was one of them. Pregnancy was fine right up until the week before I had my baby, then high BP started. I also have Iron Deficiency Anaemia. Not sure they may have added to it?.

Anyway needles don’t bother me, but my husband is petrified of them so its been a case of doing it myself. I have done 2 weeks worth now. But have to be honest, hating them. Its getting to the point now where they are starting to get me down.

I wanted to know if anyone has just stopped taking them after doing them for so long? I spoke to 2 different midwives and they basically said there were no alternatives. For reference I was up and moving around by day 2 and have been doing my normal things for over a week and a half. C section scar is pretty much healed on the outside. Been discharged from Midwives aswell. So not sure really now whether its necessary? I can’t even find any research about it really other than its to prevent DVT.

Thanks - C

@GraceEver that makes sense for yourself. But for me I want to know what my risks are now especially when theres people only having them for 10 days or some people not even being offered them. Taken them for 3 weeks now. Got the doctors for other things on Monday but will definitely be mentioning them. Its about having the right information. I was sent home with them without an explanation and i was also told 10 days not 6 weeks so to me it was important to question it.

I was prescribed 6 weeks after an emergency c section. I did 10 days - just felt super unnecessary personally to do it any longer especially as I tried to stay as active as possible afterwards (i.e not on bed rest). But I did that as a medical professional with full knowledge of my health/risks etc

I did them for 6 weeks after cs. It didn't occur to me to stop them earlier tbh. It was an inconvenience but no real side effects apart from bruising. They weren't particularly painful and I just got on with it. I was very active from the day of my cs but I didn't see that as an excuse not to do them.

@onceuponastar87 this is me. I have made a remarkable recovery… so much so I think professionals were surprised? They told me id lose a lot of blood during my c section due to being anaemic and tried to put me off having one saying id need a blood transfusion… I lost less than what you would in a vaginal delivery; 470ml in total. C section on average is 750ml to 1L loss from what I researched and found. I was told my recovery would be longer due to a slightly higher BMI… I was up walking and sitting downstairs with my other kids by day 3. By day 5 after birth I was taking small walks. Getting up and down I wasn’t lying about in bed because I knew this would increase the chances of DVT. Day 10 was told I don’t need my compression socks anymore as i’m walking around and doing normal day to day stuff (not cleaning or whatever but bending where needs be and just getting up and walking around and having my small walks). Day 13 I was discharged from my midwife because my wound had healed, I felt well in myself, I was fully mobile then as well back to normal. I know you can’t see internally so i was still being mindful. But on the whole I’d say my recovery was nothing like i thought it would be. So sometimes these things are guidelines and i get it because its safety. But based on all my info i think it can also be based on individual cases and i’m intrigued to know if im unnecessarily jabbing myself?

My C section recovery was similar to yours both times - similar blood loss, up 3-4 hours after the section, and I never lay in bed at home other than at night. Last time I didn’t even lie in bed in hospital, because the baby was in NICU for 48 hours so I spent most of my time at his cot side.No issue with stairs, no compression stockings at all at home, discharge after the last midwife home visit, etc. I thought that was all pretty standard for “normal” C section recoveries?

I did the full 6 weeks’ worth of injections after both sections. I also had 6 weeks’ worth after the first, vaginal, birth because it was a complex birth.

It took 1 minute of my day, and I was happy to be able to reduce my DVT risk with so little effort.
