VBAC after c-section?

First pregnancy I had complete placenta praevia so had no option but to have a section.

33 weeks with my second and I am more or less set on another section but I wanted to ask if anyone can share experiences (good and bad) of a first VBAC birth after a previous section? Recovery after section is playing on mind a bit although last time it was no problem, I have a 3 year old. On the same note though, recovery from some VBACS sound 10000 times worse. I really do feel like i'd have complications and atleast a tear.

Did you regret not going for a section second time round?

My advice would be that if you recovered from a c-section well last time, and it was a relatively good experience (and you'd be content with the plan of having one again) then I'd go for that.

I hated the idea of having a second section so went for a VBAC which worked out and I was happy I did, but still had a few less than ideals (episiotomy etc) so recovery isn't always a given as you say. I found recovery post section really hard so I suppose I had a low bar when comparing recoveries as I really hated how I felt post section, so it wasn't too hard for a VBAC to beat it! But I guess I wouldn't be saying that had my VBAC been very complicated and caused longer term issues. I also had a bad case of the baby blues first time round so likely associate my section with that. I had my VBAC in June 2020 so it was a different experience overall due to Covid and I was terrified of feeling the way I did post section and not having anyone with me on the ward for assistance. So all different drivers for wanting to avoid a section that may not be present for you.

Ultimately everyone has such a unique experience and it's (unfortunately!) impossible to know which way either option will go (although you can of course consider influencing factors).

I spent so much time reading about other people's experiences of vaginal births, VBACs, sections, recovery times, and other procedures, but was fairly sure I wanted to try for a VBAC and decided ultimately all the research in the world wouldn't determine my own experience. So I decided to just to follow what my strong preference was (I should say I'd been given the ok for either option medically).

That's why I'd advise to go with what your gut says and settle on that - I found it much easier to then prepare once I'd set my mind on an option.

Happy to answer any questions you do have VBAC wise if it can help in any way.

My first vbac ended in forceps then a hemorrhage due to the forceps, but I feel the recovery was still better than for my emergency c section. I went on to have two very straightforward vbs.

I don't actually think there is a right answer here. Having read so much about it over the years, I do not believe one is better than the other, although I am glad I made the decision I did.

I had a VBAC about 2 years after my EMCS.

Ngl it was tough. And midwives kinda treat you like a ticking time bomb, checking the scar a thousand times.

However, postpartum recovery wise is it was much much easier. I'd avoid c-section personally, but that's just my view.

I haven't had a vbac. But I am 28w tomorrow and hoping for a vbac. I had 5 successful vaginal deliveries and then baby.6 was an emergency c-section.

I found the recovery of the emcs horrendous and vowed to never get pregnant again. As i really really struggled.
I then did want another baby which will be our last. And I spoke to my consultant whose happy to support a vbac. Im hoping for a vbac. Not another c section although they did offer me a planned one which i heard is easier.

But from my own experience, I recover quite quickly after vaginal deliveries and hoping for that again in the Spring. I also have not had any complications in my labours just the baby 4 was stuck at a funny angle, and they were ready to run me down to theatre for an ems, and at that time I really was desperate for a wee AND a walk to the toilet and back sorted that out. But I would definitely go for a vbac anytime!!!!!
