Is this too much bring to induction?

I'm going for an induction tomorrow as I'm 41+5. I've read it can take multiple days so need to bring a few changes of clothes, toiletries, some entertainment, snacks, and I've seen lots of recommendations to bring my pregnancy pillow.

So I have a backpack, a cloth tote, and my V pillow. Is this too much? My husband is worried it's too much and we'll look silly turning up with the big pillow. I also have a separate bag for baby stuff and a breastfeeding pillow, but these will stay in the car until baby is born.

You won’t look silky at all, and who cares if people did think that anyway - you’d be the comfy one not them!
Whilst inductions can take a while, please also be aware that they can be very fast too…one of mine took only 10 minutes from start of induction to being in my arms! The others took around 30minutes. We’re all different, but being reassured that what you are experiencing is perfectly normal and safe does help.
Good Luck!!!
(I suggest cosy bed socks btw)

It sounds fine. I’m 36 weeks and have packed a small case (one of the under seat cabin sized ones) and a rucksack changing bag for the baby. I don’t think I’ll bother taking my pillow, but definitely saw women with them when I was induced previously. Sounds like a pretty normal amount of stuff.

Also would echo what the poster above said. My induction was fast too, and I wasn’t expecting that with a first baby. I had one pessary at 10am and she was born that afternoon. Good luck!

My top tip is that if they want to give you the induction drip insist on an epidural first.

My inductions at 42 weeks we’re far speedier than the ones at 41 & 40 weeks.

I went in with a cabin size suitcase with clothes and toiletries for me, my husband and the baby, a changing bag for the baby, a shoulder bag with snacks, water, iPad, chargers etc and a pillow! So I think you’re absolutely fine.

As it turns out, our hospital sends you home for 24 hours after the first pessary, so back I and all the stuff went, and back out to hospital again at 4am that night. She was born the following day, and I needed all that stuff and more, as we were in for 5 days after.

The most important thing you should make 150% sure to bring is a calm, relaxed and prepared as possible mum who is about to give birth - if that means you bring your entire bedroom contents and the kitchen sink, then that should be exactly what you bring.
100x better to bring it and not need it than the other way around. Bring what you are happy with and try not to stress to much, easier said than done I know!
very best of luck and focus on keeping yourself relaxed, happy and comfortable with pillows, water & whatever else you feel like as you’ll need all of the strength and focus to look forward to birthing your baby.

Yes being relaxed is key.

No take everything you want! I had alot because I had no real idea of what to expect. Alot of it stayed in the car till we needed it but saved DH running home for stuff

bk1981 · 21/07/2025 19:09

My induction was very quick. I actually packed two bags and left one with stuff for a longer stay in the car which I didn't need in the end.

Who cares if you look silly if it helps you sleep?

Definitely take a comfy pillow or two, there always seems to be a shortage on maternity wards. Good luck x
