Hormone Drip - Oxytocin - Subsequent Labours

Looking for people’s experiences.

During the birth of my daughter (only pregnancy and birth to date), I was placed on the hormone drip as my labour had stalled, despite my waters breaking.

I really struggled with this process as the drip was making my body do something it wasn’t ready too and I was in agony. I also felt like I needed to push at 6cm which obviously you can’t 😅 I ended up needing an epidural (which I always said I didn’t want) due to the shear amount of pain/discomfort I was in.

We are now trying for a second child but I am really worried about having to go on the drip again.

My questions is, for anyone who had the drip during their birth, did you need it for subsequent births?

I need a bit of reassurance 😅

I didn't need it second time round. Labour for me with baby 2 was so much quicker and much more textbook after all sorts the first time including drip and epidural

I was induced twice and had the drip with my first but didn’t need it with my second.

Drip for first (and fuck me I needed that epidural - don’t feel bad AT ALL!). Second was just they broke waters and she came. No drip needed.

I had it for my 2nd baby. Like you I was in agony from it.
I didn't need it for my 3rd nor my 4th.

No drip needed for 2 and 3. Much easier and hurt a lot less.

Thank you everyone - this is very reassuring that it’s happened to a number of you 🥰

i had the drip when I wasn’t progressing with the first.
with my second I barely got to the hospital before giving birth. They hadn’t even taken any details from me when I delivered. Literally was wheeled into the room, they took my leggings off me and I delivered her there and then.
I started proper labour where I was uncomfortable about 11:30 and she was born at 2.

Much less likely to need it when you've previously had a vaginal birth. There's an element of 'muscle memory' there, so to speak. And often second labours are fast in comparison to firsts!

in case no one's already mentioned it, if you were to need the drip again, you can ask to have an epidural sited before starting it.

I had it the first time during an induction (and also had an epidural)

2nd time I went into labour myself and no drip/pain relief required
