Childbirth whilst on blood thinners

Hi,

Just after people's experience about childbirth if they were on Heparin and Aspirin.

After 3 miscarraiges i tested positive for APS, Lupus Anticoagulant. I was told i needed to be on Heparin and Asprin throughout pregnancy. The consultant from the miscarraige clinic said that it would be possible to have a natural birth but they would not let me go over my due date due to risk of placenta issues and stillbirth.

I had my placenta scan at 24 weeks and the consultant who did that scan said it was fine and i wasnt more at risk than anyone else if no issues came up. This was after saying my blood flow to the placenta was slow but on the same scan said it was all fine. I am allowed to go over by a week which contradicts what the other consultants have said. I tried to ask how long would i be able to be left if i was induced without these injections as i know it can take a few days, if it works at all. He wasnt very bothered about it and i got a politicians answer. I was under the impression i couldnt be off them too long due to potential placenta issues. He said induction doesnt take days but everyone i spoke to said it does, if it works at all.

I was discharged from the miscarraige clinic at 12 weeks and tbf whilst the pregnancy has being easy (touch wood), trying to sort the medicine etc hasnt.

I do have a 32 week and 36 week scan booked in so i can potentially ask then but the midwife has no answers and i get told to ask my consultant which i dont have any.

Has anyone had any experience of this? I did a quick search but it looks like everyone is given different answers.

I'm a few months behind you, I'm also on heparin and aspirin and am at about 18 weeks.

I also have been told I wouldn't be allowed to go to the end.

I was induced with DS1, which was a healthy pregnancy. They gave me the meds at 10pm and I had him at 6am.

Who has told you induction takes days? It honestly doesn't. Xxx

I have given birth twice on blood thinners (and took them throughout pregnancy). I had no issues.

First birth they let me go over by week before a booked induction but I gave birth 3-4 days after due date. Second birth an induction was booked on due date and I went into labour 3 days before naturally (and with reflexology). I took blood thinners for 6 weeks after both pregnancies.

My dd is 3 weeks old, I was on blood thinners and aspirin throughout the pregnancy with consistent growth scans and consultants. In the end I needed an induction due to the placenta failing and had dd at 40+1. Induction is different for every one, for some people it can take up to a week, some times it doesn't work at all however, I went in for a balloon induction, it worked within 18 hours and fell out itself, then I had a 3 day delay before I was transferred to labour ward so my waters could be broken. Once they were I had dd in 4 hours. If there wasn't a delay within the hospital wards I would have had her in 22 hours.

Prepare for it to be a long process, take enough clothes, snacks and things to do but it could be a quick process :)

Induction can absolutely take days but your team will be aware of your situation and will be monitored closely. Try not to worry and enjoy your pregnancy.

Thank you all for your responses. I feel a lot more at ease now. As it stands everything is fine so far so trying not to overthink too much.

I know a fair few people who were induced who said it didnt do anything for them and they had to have a second induction or a different way. One friend was induced and nothing happened in 6 days, not sure if that was because he was a 12lb baby.

Thank you all once again xx

Try reflexology from week 39, it really helped me and helped start labour before my induction.
