blood loss after childbirth - is this normal?

Only had 3-4 days of heavyish bleeding after dd was born and have had a tiny bit of brownish loss every day since. Tonight it seems to have started up again quite heavily (she's 15 days old today). Is this normal or should I be worried?

have you told your mw?

sometimes they say the bleeding starts up again if you over-exert yourself..

If I was you I would see mw/hv, or call nhs direct if you're really worried

you do lose quite a lot of blood and gunk, so dont panic, just get some real medical advice if you want.

Congratulations on the birth of your dd!

Hmm, not sure - cant remember the sequence of events but I do remember that bleeding got heavier again before it stopped - and lasted for weeks rather than days. I rang the maternity unit once about this very thing and they were very helpful and reassuring.

have had a hectic day today so it could be that. Midwife signed me off on day 9 and health visitor has been and gone on day 13, although I do have numbers to ring if concerned. Seems strange that it went so very light so soon and now heavy again. iirc with ds it was heavy for a couple of weeks and then light for another 2-3 weeks.

I had it come and go as well, maybe try and get some rest and take it easy if possible tomorrow, see if it goes off again? like the others have said, contact community mw if you're worried.

I'm sure mine lasted for 6 weeks after the births of my dds. I had two c-sections though, so maybe that affects things...

Mine tailed off then started up again - my mw said the general rule of thumb is if it is heavy enough to soak a pad an hour, you're passing clots or it smells horrible contact your mw or gp. Otherwise, just try and get a smuch rest as you can!

thnak you everyone. It tailed off again soon after I'd got both children sorted out in the evening and settled down in front of the TV so the theory about rushing around seems to be true. Handy as now I have an excuse for doing more lazing around!!
