Childbirth after shoulder dystocia

Looking for your experience please if you experienced shoulder dystocia in a previous birth. Did you have a c-section with subsequent babies or if you went for a vaginal delivery, what was your experience?

I had shoulder dystocia with DD and she didn't free with external manoeuvres so the Dr had to deliver the posterior arm manually. This was all with only a local anaesthetic for my episiotomy. Overall a really unpleasant & scary experience for myself and DH.

Currently pregnant with DC2 and unsure how to proceed. Immediately after birth of DD the team at hospital were very clear that as she didn't free easily it would need to be a section for any future births and I have had that in my head since. However from speaking to my midwife & a couple of other midwives, this isn't necessarily the case. However risk of it happening is much higher if it's happened before, around 1 in 10. I hate the thought of it happening again & risking any injury to DC2 (and risk to me too if it has to be internal manoeuvres again). Equally though, I'm terrified of c-section and recovery especially with a toddler to look after.

I had shoulder dystocia with my first. Have had two subsequent vaginal births, no dystocia at all. Both times I was induced a few days before my due date and monitored for how big the babies were (big). The inductions were fine.
I personally wanted vaginal deliveries again but was offered c-sections if I wanted them. Felt the same as you re: recovery.
The dystocia was freed on first manouveur though when it happened with my first.
With my third I got a private midwife to come with me to the hospital birth. Would absolutely recommend this to everyone but it is pricey.
Personally I believe the dystocia with my first was due to bad positioning - I was so tired by the pushing stage that I don’t think I was able to listen to my body and how it ‘wanted’ to be positioned to push, if that makes sense. My last birth for example - induction with drip - I wasn’t so fatigued and was able to move more freely into the ‘right’ position. I think.

A friend has had a further 2
vaginal births after should dystocia with her first without issue. Induced with both a few days before due date and she was consultant led.

Thank you for replying. Yes, if she'd freed easier docs said they'd be more keen to encourage vaginal delivery and I would be more inclined to go down that route. Feel like I'm just going in circles & no closer to deciding.

Thank you for replying. Do you know how easily DC was freed? That seems to be the key sticking point for the docs advocating for section.

Dystocia on baby 2. I was pushing on all 4s with no movement, midwife sounded the alarm and flipped me open with help of other midwife, baby freed by mcroberts manouver sp? 3 further vaginal deliveries afterwards with no dystocia, 1/3 subsequent babies was larger 2/3 smaller than baby 2.

I had a shoulder dystocia in my first birth (a homebirth) and ended up with a 3b tear. Baby was resuscitated on my dining room table. Sections for the rest!
