will i get a 3d ultrasound scan london

i am in west london i don't know which hospital would be best to have my baby in bu ti really would like a 3d scan, do they do this at most hospitals now or are there only a few hospitals offering it? Thanks

No hospitals are - at least not on the NHS, as far as I know. You would have to go privately, probably in Harley St. I think a couple of mumsnetters have had them. Try Googling '3D scan baby' and I'm sure some places will come up.

No they are not standard. They are used when a more detailed picture is needed. I am not sure about them. I am not sure if it feels right yet because it is so new.. I think a scan should be done purely for clinical need, not just for a photo.IYSWIM.

Yes, can understand what you mean. The technology amazes me, as does the work done by Prof Nikolades and others, for babies in the womb.

I haven't seen it done, I have just seen the pictures. It is very new to us actually and the consultant was showing off his new bit of technology.

I had a private scan at a Babybond clinic and tried out their new 4D scanner. It wasn't very sucessful as DS had his arms over his face, normal ultrasound can zoom through skin and bones but 4D has to have an area of fluid over the baby's face to build up the picture.
They said that normally they would have got me to go for a walk, but since I was getting a free sneak peek she couldn't.
I think it made me feel a bit freaky in truth and I am glad we didn't get a good look (he was a funnny little alien at birth!)

King's were offering 3-D scans as part of a research project - but only for women between 15-18 weeks. I guess they may well use the equipment if needed at other stages. I had one of the research scans - it's truly freaky at that early stage because the baby looks like an alien!! I exaggerate not, it was freakishly ugly. I think 3-D scans when the baby is bigger are probably really interesting because you get an idea of what the baby is actually going to look like when it's born.

I had mine at 28 weeks and he was a bit too big for the 4d as it was a bit squashed in there.
I still have the 30min ultrasound on DVD though

I had a 3D scan at Queen Charlottes hospital when i was 25 weeks preg with my twins but 4 special reasons they dont just do it 4 no partic reason it didnt cost anything but i needed it.Trully amazing much more detail than n scan.
