Strange reaction to drug?

Hi guys! I have just been wondering about if anybody else has experienced this thing I did during childbirth. Before I got induced and put on the hormonal drug, the nurse said she will do a saline flush first. The second she injected me with the saline I had very strange feeling. My lips went very hot and I started to feel like I was going to fade out. I quickly went back to normal and told the nurse I just had a very strange feeling. The nurse completely dismissed it at the time. So I don’t know if it was a reaction, side effect or just me 🤔 did anyone ever experience this with this drug or something similar? Thanks

A saline flush isn't a drug, it's basically salty water.

Surely she wasn't injecting the saline into you, just flushing out the line? I imagine it was some sort of reaction to seeing something being injected or pressure on the needle in your arm. Lots of people faint when they have injections and things. When I had a general anaesthetic I felt a very strange cold burning sensation in which I assume was the drugs entering my body. In your case it was your face which just suggests blood rushed away from your head for a moment and you felt faint.

Sounds like you nearly fainted from the sensation. It's not the nicest feeling (cold and alien), and if you were already nervous it probably didn't help.

A saline flush is just that. A small amount of salty water. No drugs involved. It's injected into a cannula to clear away anything that might be blocking it (e.g. blood clot) and to clean away any residue drugs that may have gone into it before. It also gives an idea of the patency of the cannula. It should be easy to push the plunger. Any large resistance means the cannula might not be suitable to use for much longer and a new one sited soon.

@husbandcallsmepickle hi, yeah I’m aware of what saline is that’s why I’ve posted on here because i’m really unsure why I felt a strange reaction from it thanks

@WonderingWanda hi thanks for the reply, yeah she injected the saline into my cannula whilst it was in my hand, I’m not scared of needles and never felt faint in my life that’s why I’m really confused. I did Google side effects from sodium chloride and it’s possible to have a reaction from it as it contains other chemicals too

had any drugs been given into the cannula earlier? There's a small chance that if there was some residual drug left in the port/cannula that the saline may have flushed a small dose around. Otherwise, probably just one of those weird things.

@WonderingWanda your reaction is common with one particular type of general anaesthetic. The rest of your post is nonsense.
