I'm having an elective c section this morning

I'm wide awake. I'm filled with excitement and fear. I've made previous threads about my traumatic vaginal birth with DD1 which left me with tokophobia and PTSD. It was an assisted vaginal delivery.

Any last minute words of advice? Encouragement? I'm headed to the hospital at 8am. I'm really scared of the surgery itself and recovery but I am SO excited to meet my baby and find out who they are

You are going to love an elective C. It is calm, everyone knows what they are doing and you end up with a cute bundle of happiness at the end. Sending you good vibes

Thank you!! I can't get my head around the fact that within hours I will be holding and feeding my baby. That they will come home with us. Not weeks like last time!!! I'm BURSTING to meet them

Awww how lovely! A new baby! I have only had emergency sections but I recovered well with no problems.

congratulations and i Hope the experience is stress free for you.

I was surprised how fast mine was. It was an EMCS though but I was there chatting with the nurses and suddenly DD was here. I felt rough for weeks afterwards but got on with things and you have a child already anyway so you know how things are with newborns (I didn't). Enjoy today and meeting your new baby later. 💞

So exciting. I had 2 elective CS and they were incredible. Easily the two happiest days of my life. Ask for your catheter out as soon as you feel able and start gently moving as best you can. Good luck, I remember the excitement/nerves like it was yesterday ❤️

Ontheflipside_ · 16/01/2025 06:10

Eeek thank you ladies!!

Also good shout about the catheter. I had a catheter last time as I was prepped for surgery and they left it in for too long after and I didn't realise how quickly my brain/bladder would disconnect. Anyways, needed to be reinserted after retaining over 1L of urine 😬 definitely setting an alarm to remind myself to wee this time!!

How exciting!

Mine went far more smoothly than I had anticipated. Needed to be in hospital at 7am I think and DS was in my arms by 10:15! No pain or discomfort at all and was out the following day. Good luck and enjoy the newborn cuddles 🥰

How are you doing OP?

Pastelhp · 16/01/2025 20:51

Hope you’re doing ok OP. Would you mind sharing your experience on an elective C section? I’m 27 weeks and considering one

Hi ladies,

I'm doing so well thank you. Delivered a beautiful baby girl at 10:30 this morning. It was honestly the most healing and beautiful experience. I am SO pleased I went through with it. It was amazing.

I found the actual procedure and first hour afterwards pretty unpleasant. Not painful but just uncomfortable and I was sick a fair few times. The uncomfortableness I felt during the surgery was actually just lying down flat and feeling the air move around. I complained of some shoulder pain which they really quickly sorted.

I'm tender and sore now, but catheter out, in and out of bed, walking about etc. Baby girl is breastfeeding beautifully and I am taking all the painkillers on offer!!

Thanks for checking in

coxesorangepippin · 17/01/2025 03:13

Huge congrats, how wonderful 😊

GiraffesAtThePark · 17/01/2025 03:19

Congratulations 🥳

If you have shoulder pain outside of hospital peppermint tea is good for it if it’s trapped wind. Though it hopefully won’t be an issue. I had it with my emergency section but not the elective.

SeaToSki · 17/01/2025 04:06

Hooray, well done you. Now dont forget to take it easy and heal properly. Its major surgery and the post birth hormones can make you feel better than you actually are..so go slow and let your body do its thing (and keep taking your prenatal vitamins)

NameChanges123 · 17/01/2025 05:48

Many congratulations 🥳

Raininginparadise2 · 17/01/2025 05:48

Congratulations OP. 🥰💕

CoteDAzur · 17/01/2025 06:08

Congratulations OP. I also had an elective C-section after a traumatic first birth. It was the easiest, calmest, best possible birth and the baby was the same. I was up walking a few hours later and taking care of the baby the day after. I didn't even need paracetamol on day 3. Compared to my vaginal birth when I couldn't get up and was crying from the pain for 3 hours, elective CS was a breeze!

reichs79 · 17/01/2025 06:10

Congratulations💕

PurpleChrayn · 17/01/2025 06:20

I had my elective section exactly two years ago! It was so chilled and relaxed.

Good luck!

Completelyjo · 17/01/2025 06:22

My elective was a fab experience! You’ll have a great time, enjoy!

Olika · 17/01/2025 08:46
