15 weeks and still not healed

Hello. I had a ventouse delivery with DS and ended up tearing and with quite an extensive episiotomy. I still haven't quite healed externally where a couple of stiches split open leaving a kind of graze. I've been checked by the nurse who removed a dissolvable stich that hadn't dissolved but it still doesn't seem to be getting any better. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice on when/if/how it might heal. I'm still having salt baths but apart from that havn't used any creams etc, is it worth trying? Thanks all inadvance.

I can't remember how long it took me to heal properly but I know it took a while. 15 weeks does seem a bit long but have no advice really.

this'll bump the thread up for someone else though

I would have it checked again.... that seems awfully long!

what about tea tree oil instead of salt in your bath... had no experience with this but I used it with my caear stitches... healed nicely. As others have said - get it checked out though...just to be on the safe side.

MW also recommended tree tea oil in a bath or lavander (which can also be used to help soothe baby by putting a few drops on a cotton wool ball put on a warm radiator)

I had tear & cut (but not extensively) and they seem to have already healed after less than 4wks - I am asuming the oil helped

Lavender is a good oil to use as it will actually promote healing. It is excellent for any kind of cut, scar etc. Tea Tree will keep it clean as it is anti-bacterial, anti-viral AND anti-fungal (ie magic!).

May smell odd if you use them together, so maybe just the lavender. Worth getting the best quality oil you can - organic if you can find it.

Get them to check it again, have a fried who had to go back for 'undercarriage' repairs, after her dd's shoulders got stuck on the way out...ouch...

Poor you! Oww! My midwife suggested savlon in the bath, I did feel better after I started to use it. Helps with healing and will help prevent infection. Had DS 9 weeks ago and the nurse couldn't even see where they had been when I had my smear last week! I would get it checked again though as it might well be an infection causing it to be slow to heal or some other reason. Much sympathy to you though.

Hope you've recovered by now & the pain has finally gone.
Just wondering what you did - I'm going through similar problems at the moment & any advice would be very welcome!

Hello, when did you last have it checked?

I recall standing with one leg up on toilet seat so I could use a mirror to check my episiotemy!

Anyway, mine took a while to heal and I was having what I thought was a lochia discharge for far too long, it was infection insead and I had 2 lots of ABs to get rid of the infection. I also had a big lump which was a haematoma (collection of blood) which needed ultrasound therapy to break it up and dissipate it.

I had the salty baths, cotton knickers etc etc and sat on a rubber ring for comfort.

I also had mw take stitches out that seeemd to be a problem.

But I don't recall it all taking as long as you've mentioned. So I might suggest getting it checked again.

Have you tried arnica? you can get 30c arnica pillules from health food shops, Boots etc which you could try taking.

Hope you get sorted very soon so that you can send more time enjoying your lovely baby!
