Bump pain 38 weeks diastasis recti?

I’m 38 weeks and this is my second baby, overall been much more uncomfortable this time. I spend 2 days a week looking after our 3 year old when he’s not at nursery and I find these days the hardest - I get hip and bump pain from standing up for so long, picking him up, playing with him etc.

at a routine midwife appointment I had a different midwife to my usual one because it was a different day, I was about 30 weeks at the time. As I sat up from lying down from the heartbeat check she said I have diastasis recti because my belly domed as I sat up. I had no idea that’s what it was as the doming thing happened in my first pregnancy too, and I did the check afterwards where you put fingers in and I couldn’t get any in a few months after birth.

This time I’ve also noticed lately that when I stand up from lying down/sitting that my bump hurts in that area, around my belly button. Also I sometimes feel like when I look down at my bump is it almost in 2 parts.

Do I need to worry about how this will affect my recovery? I am having a c section. Have I done anything wrong for this to happen?

does anyone know how best to manage this after birth to get back to normal?

thank you!

Ahhhhh! I have no advice OP but I am 36 weeks and my belly domes too! What does this mean? Will we be ok? 😬

You haven’t done anything wrong…your abdominal wall has just opened up because of the babies. I had the same. I tried everything…look at MUTU System once Baby is born. I did MUTU for years, and my pelvic floor is healed, but my intestines aren’t fully back inside because of the DR. I’m having it surgically fixed in two weeks. And no, the NHS won’t fund it.

@T34ch3r thank you, and I’m sorry to hear that you have to have surgery! Why won’t the nhs do it? Crazy!

I also have like a pain like an elastic band popping below my belly button every now and again, not sure if it’s just the baby moving but it feels like all my muscles and ligaments snapping!!

Pregnancy is brutal, I don’t know how some people have loads of kids, I’m in awe that their bodies can cope.

@Justanothermum9421 well my main midwife has never mentioned it, just this one I had as a one off for one appointment. She just said I’ll need to do exercises after the birth and might need physio. I’m pretty sure I had it in my first pregnancy though and it went back to normal after birth. I think all we can do is wait and see what happens. Good luck with your baby 🙂

It’s “cosmetic surgery”. Apparently. My surgeon used to do them on the NHS.
