Until day 15 ds used to stay awake atleast 45 minutes in the day( sometimes at night too) . He doesn't seem to wake up anymore now. He does wriggle when it's feed time but not awake. I'm concerned.

Is he a prem baby? I would check with your HV.

WonderingWanda · 07/12/2024 10:12

Is he feeding? Any crying? Still having wet nappies? At this many days under care of the midwife so I would contact them urgently if he isn't feeding or having wet nappies.

cestlavielife · 07/12/2024 10:14

It s a change. Seek advice today. He is tiny baby.
Some metabolic conditions only become apparent after some days.

Lougle · 07/12/2024 10:15

I would want someone to see him if he isn't waking up at all. Wriggling at feed time isn't the same as being awake. Does he open his eyes?

romdowa · 07/12/2024 10:15

You need to take your baby to be seen today. It's not normal that baby is asleep all the time.

NobleWashedLinen · 07/12/2024 10:27

Trust your instincts and if something feels wrong it is totally ok to make a pain of yourself and insist on getting seen by a sufficiently experienced health professional. Heath visitors don't always spot red-flag warning symptoms. Even if you end up having to go to A&E, absolutely nobody minds erring on the sude of caution when it comes to a tiny baby. Any doctor would agree they would rather be forced to see 10 babies that are perfectly healthy than have one mum with a genuinely poorly baby feel that she can't make a fuss.

TheChosenTwo · 07/12/2024 10:29

Get him checked out.
Is he having feeds and wet nappies?
best of luck.

If you are concerned, as you are, seek medical advice for baby a.s.a.p. Babies' health can change quickly.

INeedNewShoes · 07/12/2024 10:34

Please go and see a doctor today or call the postnatal ward for advice.

Trust your instincts.

Sistertwo · 07/12/2024 10:36

I had 4, and my 37 week baby was sleepier than my 40 and 41 weekers, but they all always had wakeful periods. I would seek medical advice today.

YSianiFlewog · 07/12/2024 10:37

Is he breastfed or formula fed? How much is he feeding and how many wet nappies?

I agree that he needs to be seen today - try midwife if you're still able to otherwise phone 111 and insist on being seen. If they don't have appointments within couple of hours tke him to A&E. It's not normal to sleep so much.

quoque · 07/12/2024 10:40

Trust yourself. You know this is a change and something is wrong - I would have him seen today as a matter of urgency.

Mumdiva99 · 07/12/2024 10:40

My last child was a sleeper. But.....baby is tiny. You will not be wasting anyone's time to jist get him checked. Pop to a&e. They can always send you home if all is good. They would rather you go than worry and leave it.
I hope you just have a happy full sleepy baby and this becomes a tale you tell in years to come. Xxxx

sel2223 · 09/12/2024 00:25

A good sleeper is one thing but a baby sleeping all day ever day 24/7 is another thing entirely - especially as it's a change. Definitely get checked out.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 09/12/2024 08:01

Any update on this? I hope you little one is ok.

Samkhere · 10/12/2024 05:28

Hi mums
Thankyou for all the comments. He woke up a few hours after my post and was awake for a really long time. Guess he was just tired from our outing to the hospital the previous day.

Glad he’s ok - always so much to worry about when they’re so tiny and fragile.
