Can my husband bring me some dinner into hospital?

Random one but last c section I had the food was so bad (not being a snob but it was really not nice).

got another c section booked for December.

Would my husband be allowed to bring something in for me this time (discreetly) something like a hot wrap from Pret or something? Or would he get told off?

thanks!

My dp brought me a flask of real coffee the morning after dd was born. I have never felt such waves of envy in my life.....🤣

Perfectly fine to do this. But if you aren't in a private room do have some discretion in not ordering anything that will have a really powerful smell.

As opposed to the smell of heated up hospital food and all the other gross smells that come with hospitals?

Mine had to else I wouldn’t have got fed. (I’m only vegetarian but it seemed to completely stump the catering staff every mealtime. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Just what you want when you are poorly - the smell of a burger or a curry wafting around the ward 🙄

As opposed to the smell of hospital food?

GlassHouseBlue · 20/11/2024 13:36

The bacon sandwich my MIL sent with my DH was the food of gods.

jolota · 20/11/2024 13:39

I had a really long labour & my husband was starving - they don't provide food for non patients so they suggested he order a takeaway. I can't imagine why your husband couldn't bring food in for you.
Obviously as others have said, be mindful of smell etc, especially on an open ward.

Thanks so much everyone ☺️ now to get thinking about what I fancy having!

You can take food and your own drinks.

Babyboomtastic · 20/11/2024 13:58

My husband brought me up a full English from the cafe the morning after my session. It was wonderful. Though any two breakfast day is going to be pretty good.

18 years ago DH joined the queue of men outside a branch of Pret who were bringing meals to the post natal ward. The hospital food was particularly awful and usually cold.

MumonabikeE5 · 20/11/2024 14:08

No need to be discrete about it .
bring what you want.

Flamez · 20/11/2024 14:15

When I had my first child decades ago, I was on a ward with 5 other lovely ladies. My dear mum made us all bacon rolls for breakfast one morning and dad brought them in for us on his motorbike. One of my fondest memories of him.

Course!

Absolutely. The torture of being able to smell something delicious from the next bed which having nothing available yourself than horrible hospital gloop is worse than the smell of something nasty.

Thanks everyone!

definitely will be mindful of smells - I hate smelling other peoples food!

although hopefully this will be minimised if we order around the same time everyone else is eating?

im not fussy at all but I can’t face hospital food again when already feeling so tired and fragile.

I'm also having a csection in December! I also cannot bare hospital food - the smell alone is enough to make me want to throw up.

My sister will be one of our visitors after, so I've given her a list of food/drinks to bring both me and DH in when she visits. It's mostly cold food (meal deal and snacks) so we don't have to worry about reheating or if we don't want it then, we can have it later cold. (DH is staying and we had a side room) but if for whatever reason my sister isn't able to visit (if delayed and visiting is over) our hospital has a on site shop. I think it's a WHSmith/M&S so will be sending DH down to get food. X

The midwives literally told me to get deliveroo and what local places are good!

bk1981 · 21/11/2024 10:43

The midwives in my hospital told me to make sure my husband brought me something nice for breakfast as well they had was cereal.

Needahandholdplease2023 · 21/11/2024 11:13

I didnt even think about smells after both my children, was too exhausted, sleep deprived, in pain and the constant noise was the worse. My husband brought me a burger king in after my second and it was the best thing ever!

Peonyyyy · 21/11/2024 13:39

Thanks guys. Thinking I might we might get burgers from our favourite place, as I haven’t been eating them since getting pregnant! Might also get some nice pastries from our fave cafe. It’s nice to have something delicious to look forward to after the shock and exhaustion of giving birth! I’ll probably be an emotional wreck again too x

It's like they've never heard of headphones! It's bad enough hearing the person on the ward speaking loudly but the awful tinny noise of the person on the other end of the video call at max volume, always with noisy kids in the background (yes even at 3am!), takes the biscuit!

Would take smelly curries or fish smells any day over that tbh!

Absolutely agree with you there! 😂

CTW23 · 21/11/2024 13:57

You can but they will definitely not be able to heat anything up for you

Needmorelego · 21/11/2024 14:04

@CTW23 depends - sometimes there's a microwave in the (patients) break room.
