C-section - will I feel them make the cut??

I'm 3 and a half weeks away from my ELCS, baby is also footling breech.

I've gone down abit of a rabbit hole googling delivery of a footling breech baby with a csection but upon googling I've come across some Reddit threads where people are saying they felt the incision being made?!? Like no pain - but they feel the sensation of something running across there skin and knew that was the cut being made. It's freaked me out slightly!! Actually, a lot...

I was aware I made feel some pressure, tugging when they're taking baby out. But I was under the impression that besides that. I'd feel nothing else at all, sensation or pain wise. Have I been wrong? Need to mentally prepare myself.

I've had two CS, the first for breech presentation. Neither time did I feel the incision in any way! But did feel the 'washing up' type sensation when they were getting the babies out. Strange sensation but certainly no pain during the ops.

CheeseWineBainne · 19/11/2024 21:36

Two ELCS, I didn't feel a thing either time. On my recent one, I was most surprised to hear that not only had they already started, but that they nearly had the baby out! It was incredibly smooth.

MyCatIsBeautiful · 19/11/2024 21:36

No. I’ve had two and didn’t feel anything like that. Didn’t know it had happened until I started feeling the ‘rummaging’.

Firesideblanket · 19/11/2024 21:37

Didn’t feel a thing.

Lunamoon23 · 19/11/2024 21:38

That's so reassuring! I started to really panic reading that, genuinely felt a warmth come over me 😅

In regards to the 'rummaging' feeling. How does that really feel? Is it over relatively quickly?

Noooo, you will feel nothing as you should have a spinal block!

You do feel the pressure and 'rummaging about' though, as they are trying to get your baby out! Just feels weird but doesn't hurt.

All the best! 😘

ReginaPhalange92 · 19/11/2024 21:38

I had an emergency c section and I felt the cut. No pain, just like someone was drawing a line across my stomach.

Cannedheat1999 · 19/11/2024 21:38

I had the exact same c section and was also terrified I’d feel something. I was telling DH that I wasn’t numbed and they needed to give me more epidural- and he calmly said the baby was already out. I hadn’t felt a thing!!!

Cinai2 · 19/11/2024 21:38

No, didn’t feel the cut at all and also no ‘washing up’ as others often mention. Just my bum felt really weird, like sliding on ice 😂

NOTSHOUTING · 19/11/2024 21:39

Didn't feel a single thing. No tugging, no cutting, no "washing up". They do check well before they begin - I remember being asked if I could feel something cold in various places - I couldn't feel it anywhere until they were right up near my armpits. They'll be thorough, try not to worry :)

Redlarge · 19/11/2024 21:39

No. But you will feel tingling there for months/years after

lanadelgrey · 19/11/2024 21:40

Nothing at all. The people at my head were also great at chatting for distraction, far better than the surgeons who were discussing a conference as I recall and had v little interest in the end result

Put a backpack on your pack, about three quarters full of stuff, and stick a small purse in the bottom. Then zip it up, and ask a friend to unzip it, and try to get your purse out of the bottom (through all the stuff in it) Put in say, a cardigan, a water bottle, a camera, some tissues, reading glasses in a box, a pair of slippers, a pair of gloves, a fold up umbrella etc.. Try to put quite a lot of stuff on top of the purse. And get this friend to try to get your purse whilst the backpack is still on your back!

The feeling you get of the rummaging going on in the backpack will give you a bit of an idea of what it feels like when the surgeon is trying to get your baby out! 😀

No you won't
Had two sections
Just like a sensation of someone washing up
No pain hun

Lunamoon23 · 19/11/2024 21:46

@SabreIsMyFave oh god 😅😂 that sounds horrible!

Jellycats4life · 19/11/2024 21:47

I didn’t even feel any rummaging!

What I do remember is feeling a “lightness” inside my body as this giant 8.5lb had just been evicted. Other than that, I felt absolutely nothing.

ShinyWellies · 19/11/2024 21:47

Didn't feel a thing . Slight washing machine feeling , can only relate it to the sensation of butterflies but honestly not even as intense as that.

I was absolutely petrified going into it and I can honestly say to you it was such a calm , lovely experience.

No idea how long it took but I couldn't believe how quick it was until baby was out and by the time babies out you're so distracted that you're not even aware of how long it takes to get stitched up afterwards.

Rumblytumblytea · 19/11/2024 21:49

No pain but absolutely felt them rummaging in my stomach like a suitcase, could feel them moving bits around to get to other bits. It wasn’t nasty but it wasn’t like lovely?

No pain which was the important thing

EwwSprouts · 19/11/2024 21:50

Another who didn't feel a thing. The consultant held DS up for me to see before they cleaned him up and I said 'that was quick!'.

Diversion · 19/11/2024 21:51

4 c sections here. If I had been in pain I would have been unlikely to do it so many times. I had spinal blocks and had no pain at all, just felt a bit of rummaging at times which was weird but not painful. It took about 5 minutes for delivery and longer for sewing up but by then you will have your baby. Good luck, you will be absolutely fine!

GoodVibesHere · 19/11/2024 21:51

I didn't feel the cut at all, but I could definately feel the rummaging around, I've never forgotten the feeling. For me it was a slightly nauseous feeling, a bit like the drop on a rollercoaster when your tummy feels all upside-downy. Nothing too horrible but just very unusual and strange and unsettling but then 2 seconds later the baby appears so it's over in a flash.

LOL no it's not. It's just a weird feeling 😆

shieldmaiden7 · 19/11/2024 21:51

Had my first c-section last year after multiple natural births due to failed induction.
I did not feel the incision at all. I did feel the tugging feeling but it wasn't uncomfortable. She was out within 10/15 minutes of it starting. We were so surprised they had even started!
Good luck and congratulations OP x

Lunamoon23 · 19/11/2024 21:52

Does the rummaging feeling some of you felt over once baby is out? Do you feel anything after when being stitched up? X

Lunamoon23 · 19/11/2024 21:54

is the** that was meant to say x
