Pain four months post c-section

I had a c-section four months ago and my scar still feels tender to touch/ lightly press. I assume this is normal given that my abdomen was cut open, but am wondering how long it’s taken others to completely heal?

Hey @StellaShining oh you have my sympathies. Is this your first section? I ask because my second took about twice as long to recover from presumably because of the previous scar tissue. It sounds normal based on my experience so long as it's not pain that stops you in your tracks. It's major surgery that involves more than one incision (and then you have a wholly dependent human to manage straight after!). Anything abdominal can hurt for a while because you use those muscles often, especially lifting a baby. I would say that if it's hot to touch or you feel unwell to get it looked at.

It’s not hot to touch and I feel good, it’s just tender if pressed or pulled. I think this sounds normal considering surgery and recovery looking after a baby, but everything I read only deals with the immediate aftermath and says you should be fully recovered after six weeks.

It’s my first one and I’ve found the recovery advice quite contradictory. It’s obviously a major surgery and I definitely felt that, but then why would you be “fully healed” six weeks after it? I consider fully healed to be pain free and mobility back to how it was pre pregnancy.

Thanks for the reassurance, I’ll probably mention it to my GP when I’m next there!

Tbh it does sound normal. Six weeks is always trotted out but everyone is different. I know women who felt bouncy and great two weeks later whereas I was most certainly not that! It's always worth mentioning to the GP, if only for some reassurance.

I think it’s close to a year before all the layers are ‘fully healed’

i felt able to walk around after 3 weeks without wincing but wouldn’t go for a run for example til nearer 7-8 months
