Bleeding at 31 weeks with tightening... chances of early labour

Long post so I do apologise.
Had some pains going to bed Wednesday night, took 2 paracetamol assuming they were Braxton hicks and went to sleep. Woke up at 1am to go to the toilet, and found I had had a heavy bleed soaked my knickers and into bed sheets/mattress and was still there when wiping and down the toilet pan.
Rung my hospital and went straight in, baby's heartbeat was picked up straight away upon arrival, thank god, and bleeding continued heavily for a few hours. Tightenings/contractions were picked up on the monitors and got more and more intense, closer together and lasting longer over the next 12 hours. Reminded me of beginning of labour on my first, however upon consultant checking my cervix was closed. I have been given 2 doses of steroids, moved to another hospital more equipped to deal with baby if he were to arrive this early as they were expected me to go into labour and deliver.
I am on day 3, bleeding has stopped basically, only there is small bits when wiping and tightneings/contractions are no longer there either. The most recent consultant has now said it is likely I can go home tomorrow and continue my care plan with my local hospital.

I am just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar? Did this lead to pre term labour in the end? Did anyone go full term?

I am just really overwhelmed with what to expect, gone from baby is coming early and having NICU doctors explain what will happen when he's born, to I will likely have to stay in hospital for at least a week possibly remaining of pregnancy for monitoring as this is likely not an isolated episode to now I can go home and continue pregnancy as normal 😩
So confused and don't know what to feel.

Sorry you're going through this. Was any cause for the bleeding found? I had bleeding at 28 weeks and my waters went as well. The waters stopped leaking luckily but the bleeding continued on and off for three or four weeks. It was never as heavy as the first time though.

I ended up going into spontaneous labour at 36+4 and on examining my placenta after delivery there was evidence of a possible minor placental abruption which had healed.

Have you been told to rest at all? I was advised not to lift anything heavy and I took it very easy until the bleeding stopped.

A friend has similar at around 29 weeks. She went home but was written off sick and took it really easy. Baby still arrived a bit early - 35 weeks I think - and was small and a bit sleepy to start with but essentially fine and now a very active happy tot.

My waters broke on Friday night at 28 weeks so I was kept in basically told my baby could have come within that 48 period what a scary time ! But because all my checks were fine I was fine and baby fine I got to go home with now 2 visits per week to the hospital with scans, clinics etc it's now just a waiting and praying game that infection stays at,bay and baby continues to grow, I am finding it tough in terms of the unpredictability of baby's arrival after getting the shock of how soon it could have happened but the main thing is we are both still healthy and I welcome everyday that passes with as much rest as possible and keep remaining positive ❤️ altho very hard because everything is heightened now I'm trying to get back into the excited phase rather than worry but everyone so far has been excellent it's very comforting knowing how good I've been looked after so far , my pregnancy path has changed slightly but at the end of the day we are still very excited to meet our baby and are ready for battling all that's ahead 😊

@DonsL if you're on Facebook the group "preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) support" is a fantastic source of hope and support.
