What's the longest overdue anyone's been and what was the outcome??

Am due today but no sign of anything happening. DS was eventually induced at 14 days over and am hoping to avoid induction this time (I certainly won't be agreeing to it readily) - especially as DS had no signs of being "overcooked" when he finally arrived

how far overdue have people gone? how long will they do extra monitoring for? did you end up with an induction anyway?

I was only 11 days overdue, so can't match your record I'm afraid. I had a failed induction ending in cs but when ds came out he was definitely overcooked - all wrinkly and with lots of hair and long fingernails!

Only a mere 12 days over with DD2.

i know a lady (a doula) who went about 4 weeks over with both of her girls. she refused induction , i think she had doppler checks as well.

13 days over with DS2, then a crash c-section, no induction.

DS2 had a VERY big head, born 8lb 13

I was 17 days late and produced an elephant .

Could not be induced as I had had two sections, would have carried on waiting so long as baby was happy.

BTW they (the medics) can't make you have a section, they can only advise

Forgot to say, baby born completely naturally and weighed in at 10lbs 13oz

I went 3 and a half weeks over my due date. I really wanted the homebirth I had planned and knew if I agreed to be induced I would have to be in hospital. I had two post-date scans and the last week or so was being monitored every day at the hospital. My dd finally arrived nearly a month after her due date - had a dream birth and she was covered in vernix when born so obviously not ready to come before! So glad I waited for her to start the process off herself!

Oh and she weighed in at 7lb 11oz (despite hospital warning me the baby would put on a pound a week).

lol at Bessie's elephant! good size though - bet you had to ditch all the newborn sized clothes!

One more thing (sorry!) - I was certain of my dates.

raye - that's really useful to know - how nervous were the MW and consultants about you being so "Overdue" (in their opinion)?

4 weeks.

They refused to use my dates over scan dates. I had only had sex the once since coming off the pill. A midwife found a heartbeat with a doppler at what would have been just 8 weeks by their dates (she found mine too to compare, so yes, it was def the baby and not a crazy midwife).

Due to them not listening to my dates I got to have a fabulous intervention free water birth.

She was peeling head to foot like she had been dunked in acid though, and was a 4 week old in developed (we have video footage of her in the hospital, so only a few days old, holding her head up and looking round the room).

I was ill afterwards with weird irregular heartbeat and dizzy spells. We don't know if that was linked with my placenta (although that was HUGE and looked healthy), or the syntometrin (?? is that the word?) injection, I didn't have the jab with DS so can't compare.

My mother. The answer to the question is four weeks and me, respectively.

I had the most fantastic independent midwives, so felt utterly supported in all my decisions - one of them would always come to the hospital with me to help fend off the inevitable pressure form consultants etc. Tbh the docs even used emotional blackmail to try and get me to agree to induction, but I was so sure that dd was fine and so so glad I resisted. Next time, though, I won;t be able to afford the indep MWs, so will have to battle it out for myself! Remember some world health guidelines count 42 weeks as full term, not 40. Be strong and go with your instincts!

Another btw, it was my consultant who supported me in my extended pregnancy and any negativity came from an older midwife, oh and my consultant was close to retiring,

When I was 2 weeks overdue I went to hospital to be induced.
2 doses of pessary on the Monday, then mild contractions overnight.
Had another pessary on the Tuesday morning. Midwife did a sweep & broke my waters around lunchtime. Contractions got stronger.
Hooked up to a drip to speed up contractions at teatime on Tuesday.
Had DS that night. Needed forceps as DS became distressed and had to be born quickly.

Labour was fine until I was hooked up to the drip, then contractions became strong & painful really quickly. Until then I was managing ok with TENS machine. After the drip I needed gas & air, then asked for an epidural (which unfortunately only worked on one side of my body). Consultant gave me a pudendal (spelling?) block for the episiotomy / forceps delivery, which was such a relief from the pain.

DS was born healthy, which was the main thing.

3 weeks 6 days, they refused to believe my dates. DD came out with a very gritty placenta, through the catflap, when I got pre-eclampsia. She was not keen to come out at all.

But she was fine. Am hoping this baby is a bit more keen to come out!

I (as in me, not my baby) was a month late and it didn't do me any harm! I was just quite wrinkly. And I still enjoy a good lie-in.

26 years ago i was born a month late, my mother still hasn't forgiven me.
When her waters broke they were green and solid, my placenta had decreased in function so i was only 7'11lbs but my nails had grown long and then grown back on themselves. As the doctors thought i was dead they cut my mum badly and put forceps over my face to get me out as she was hemmoraging, hence i was a bloody ugly baby and have a dent on the side of my face still. Mum ended up with over 40 stitches and i was blessed by the bishop of Norwich as he told my mum i looked like a camel

DS was 18 days late. I was in hospital for 4 days waiting for the pessaries to work (and developing a fear of painful internal exams ). Eventually went into labour the night of day 4 but cervix proved to be a bit faulty and ended up with CS, which was a blessed relief after 13 hours of labour on a public ward, with limited pain relief and having to phone DH myself to come in at 4 in the morning after 6 hours labouring on my own, because the midwives couldn't be arsed to call him despite me begging them to.

DS was 10lb 4oz and, happily, not dried out or with freaky long nails or hair
