I’m booked in for my section and it feels like it’s coming round very fast. Does anyone have any experiences to share, how long did you wait to go down to theatre? Was your partner able to stay in overnight? How long was your hospital stay afterwards?

Thanks!

Hey 👋🏼 first of all congratulations on the pregnancy!! I had my scheduled c-section in 2022 and was booked in at 9am and ended up waiting till 2pm to have mine. It’s completely up to whether any emergency sections need to be done before you. In my case my surgeon got stabbed with a needle during his previous surgery so a replacement had to be called in! I was on a ward so my partner couldn’t stay overnight, but the visiting hours are generally pretty good and you’re going to want to do mummy and baby bonding throughout your first night together anyway. The next day you’re going to be asked to get up and go pee because the epi will have worn off and you’ll not have a tube in anymore. If you can walk and pee then you can go home!

Hi, I had an elective just over 2 weeks ago and it was a great experience. I was booked in for 12 but didn't get taken to a room until 3 as there had been a couple of emergencies in the morning. Walking to the theatre was a bit surreal but everyone was so nice and reassuring when we were in there that I felt so comfy. Didn't take long then was taken to recovery where we stayed for ages as there weren't any beds. Finally got onto a ward at 1am. Husband was allowed to stay all night which I needed as I couldnt lean across far enough to get to baby. 12 hrs after I was up and about walking. It felt like a sting on the scar and just bruised but I feel so well healed already I'd do it again tomorrow if I needed to. Good luck!

In my local hospital, no one is allowed to stay with you overnight.. in my cousins local hospital her partner was able to stay the whole 3 days she was in for. It's different at every hospital

You need to ask about the overnight it depends on your hospital rules.
I waited all day as it was non emergency - you can ask them to put your IV in early to give you fluid if you feel dehydrated. They won't unless you ask x
