Coil fitted during c-section

Hey, I have just had my consultant appointment to book an elective c-section (for MH not any physical issues with baby or me) and she asked if I'd like a coil fitted during the operation. I didn't know this was an option so I've left it to decide closer to the time which the doctor was happy with. I've done a bit of research and found mixed advice. Has anyone here had one fitted during a c-section or been offered and said no? I like the idea that I wouldn't have to worry afterwards about making an appointment and waiting to get some contraception but I would like to breastfeed and worry the hormones may affect this from the coil. Any advice or experiences would be amazing .

Thank you

I was asked the same last week, however I declined. Purely because I would rather take the pill as I've always been great at remembering it and I'd rather that then having to go again and again.
But it seems like it's standard practice these days. I've also heard of women having their tubes tied etc during a Csection or even ovarian cysts removed. I guess they figure while they're in there! They may aswell. They wouldn't advise anything that would be unsafe though x

Thank you, makes sense to have it put in whilst I'm there I suppose. I'm awful at remembering the pill so would mitigate that too. Thanks for your advice

I've had a coil the Mirena but not fitting during a c section . It was the best thing ever as I can't take the combination pill but the coil I loved it , I never got periods , didn't have to worry about taking a pill everyday there was no downside for me.

I declined as my DH had booked to have the snip done.

My friend also ended up unexpectedly pregnant after hers fell out after she had it placed during her c section so that doubly put me off!

My DH is set to have one too so I hadn't given my contraception much thought tbh. But I know a vasectomy can take months to be effective so not sure whether to have the coil in the meantime to mitigate the risk of a surprise pregnancy 🫣 I've not been on any contraception for years so I don't know how my body will react .

I had one fitted during a section. Worst decision I could have made, which added an outrageous amount of extra stress to the post natal period and left me feeling really low. They are much more likely to be expelled after a section because of your uterus contracting. They also leave the threads extra long because they're meant to curl up.

Ten days after the birth I realised the threads of mine were hanging down my leg. Couldn't get anyone to take ownership of the issue because they hadn't fitted it, so no one would help me. Very uncomfortable and kept getting caught on the maternity pads when I was sitting down etc. Spent three weeks like that until a kind GP offered to trim them .
Month later went for US to check it was in the right place. Surprisingly (!) it wasn't and was dislodged.
Waited another three weeks to have it removed.

Don't do it!

After my first child I had a coil fitted at six weeks and would recommend that.
