Preeclampsia- what to do?

My sister is nearly 33 weeks & has been taken into hospital with preeclampsia.

They are wanting to have the baby out within the next couple of weeks. She is being given lots of conflicting opinions by the medical staff & is unsure of what to do - in terms of induction vs Caesarian.

does anyone have any experience of a similar situation that could share their story?

I think when you’re at risk already, you want to limit any further risk and for that reason a planned c section is much safer than an induction that may take a while to work, could distress the baby, etc.

I had a c-section at 35 weeks rather than induction. I felt that pre-term, my body wouldn't be ready to go into labour so c-section was the better choice as induction would likely be long, if it worked! My daughter also had iugr and low birth weight infants can find labour harder to tolerate.

I had PE with all 5 pregnancies as well as Cholestasis.
I was induced and delivered vaginally all of my babies, including twins BUT I was at least 35 weeks up to 37 weeks.

I was never offered a CS so I assume they felt an induction was safe. It took a few days each time (except the twins, that was literally 5 hours 40 minutes after the gel went it)

All the best to your sister. My BP returned to normal after the first 4 deliveries. Number 5 took a few months but I was in my 40's.

Happy to answer any more questions.

Check the statistics. I think that about 1/3 of inductions end up needing forceps or emergency c-section.

A planned c-section, on the other hand, is the safest delivery method for both mother and baby.

I had an emergency c-section last time (pre-eclampsia), and I am pregnant again with a date for a planned c-section. I also have high blood pressure already (only second trimester) and my doctor didn’t even discuss induction with me, we went straight to the c-section date.

I had pre eclampsia at 35 weeks and opted to be induced. After a long induction and then going into labour for about 24 hours, my baby's heart rate started to dip & ended up with an emergency C section. Same thing happened to a friend of mine and she ended up with an emergency C section.

I think similarly to PP, baby was too small and my body was nowhere near ready and wasn't dilating.

If I knew the outcome, I would've just elected for the C section and not gone through all that pain and disappointment for nothing.

I gave birth at 38 weeks via induction due to pre eclampsia but there's a huge difference in 33 weeks and 38 weeks there is so much that would need to be taken into account babies size , how bad is the pre eclampsia what's the risk to mother and baby , she needs to listen to her doctors she will be monitored very closely her and baby it's not to be taken lightly
